For the first 5 minutes go over the topic. Then have the students write 1-5 sentences using the part of speech.

For example, provide a picture and have the students list all the nouns.

getting books out to read
switching centers
bathroom and water rules
practicing breaks
All aspects of the classroom matrix- as an activity I have different groups act out the correct behavior in each setting and I go over the wrong way

In the midst of practicing the routines, I have them take parts of the math and ELA diagnostic and mix in Ice breakers to keep them engaged.
