I sketched a variety of options for placements of openings to turn the figures into bud vases, as well as for sgraffito decoration.

In the end, I decided on an abstract patch of colored slip that links the two pieces when they’re aligned in a specific way. I decided to retain the heads, as the angle at which they look at (or away from) each other adds significantly to the narrative of the piece. I also decided that these pieces work better as sculptural pieces than as vessels. Therefore, I plan to make another pair of vessels to fulfill the functional requirement of the 46b assignment.

It took me three tries to get the vase shape I was after, so I have two extra pinch pots. I made one into a bird-shaped pouring pot. I'll be decorating the body with slip/sgraffito next week.
