Reflection about Connected but Alone

After watching Sherry Turkle’s “Connected but Alone?”, I came up with a question: Does technology really connect us with other people next to us? Nowadays, people cannot imagine their lives without technology. They would have forgotten the life without cellphones, tablets and computers, which people thought that these provide them more chances to communicate with others. But little did we know that because of technology, we don’t really need to talk with others personally or with our real voice. We don't really need to see them face-to-face. We became contented and satisfied with just one text or call. We give more of our attention on the messages and posts from our Facebook, E-mail, Instagram, Twitter, etc rather than the words from our family, friends and loved ones. People spend most of their time in the virtual world rather than focusing on the real world. And Sherry Turkle is hoping that technology could lead people back to the original real lives and actual world. And to me, what we really need to do in order to achieve it is to not tolerate the wrong or negative effects of technology. We really need to learn how to use it in its real purpose, which is in creating a better world.

It is clearly to conclude that technology provided a full impact to our lives. Even though technology has affected our ways of communications, we should still have a substantial and meaningful talk with people important to us. We should not be dependent on technology because we cannot deny the fact that it will not always be there for us.
