Learning is generally defined as relatively permanent changes in behavior, skills, knowledge, or attitudes resulting from identifiable psychological or social experiences. 

The process of learning is continuous which starts right from the time of birth of an individual and continues till the death.

According to Crow and Crow, Transfer of learning is 

“The carry-over of habits of thinking, feeling, or working of knowledge or of skills, from one learning area to another usually is referred to as the transfer of training.”

“The term ’learning’ would be applied to the special kind of transfer phenomena in which there is great similarity between training conditions and test conditions.”

In this case, the past learning of one subject or activity facilitates the learning of another subject or activity.

Here in learning of one task makes the learning of a second task harder.

The negative transfer is also called habit interferences.

In this case, the learning of one subject does help the learning of

another.

On the basis of magnitude or quality, it is of three types-positive, zero and negative.

A key feature is permanence, changes do not count as learning if they are temporary.

We all are engaged in the learning endeavors in order to develop our adaptive capabilities as per the requirements of the changing environment.

There may be zero transfer between language and mathematics.

Learning to drive on one side of the road can make it harder to drive on the other side

Learning the grammar and syntax of one language can make it harder to learn another language
