Red rising was a fantastic book. It is action packed and filled with excitment. it takes places thousands of years in the future where the solar system has been colinated. There is a harsh cast system and the reds, the lowest, are forced to mine all the resources for the higher cast. There is a secret rebelllion amongst the reds and one red, Darrow, becomes a gold(the highest cast) to be a spy. The story follows darrow and his quest to rise in the gold ranks. they are forced to kill each other and play this cruel game of domination. Pierce brown does a great job of capturing battle scences and making the reader feel like they are part of the story. 10/10 good book

They talk about how Darrow is the classic hero who is the only one who can save the day. But how the seeting gives the story a twist making it better than every other Underdog story.

The overall theme of Red Rising is Surpressing rage for the greater good. Sacrifice in one word. Darrow must surpress his urge to kill Golds who have wronged him in the past when he sees them. He must make hard decisions like killing other golds so he can ascend. Darrow must do everything that is against his nature in order to gain power and help the reds.

Darrow is the main character of the story. He is the savior of the reds. In the beginning of the story he is very complacent, not wanting to rebel as his father had done. It isnt until his wife is killed for breaking the law that darrow also breaks the law. He is put to death, except he isnt. Darrow lived because he was drugged. Then the Sons of Ares, a group of red rebles, shows him that the golds have lied to him. Then darrow becomes angry. He wants to exact his revenge amongst the golds. After he is turned into a gold, Darrow enters their academy. In the academy darrow learns to balance his rage in order to rise in the ranks. His rage becomes focus and he uses it to take down the golds.
