Netiquette is short for Internet etiquette. Just like etiquette is a code of polite behavior in society, netiquette is a code of good behavior on the internet. This includes several aspects of the internet, such as email, social media, online chat, website comments, multiplayer gaming, and other types of online communication.

Good Netiquette:
-Before you post a comment, double check it to make sure that you are saying exactly what you want to say. This is important because your comment could come across the wrong way to someone else reading it over the internet.
-Help others who may be having a hard time finding things. We were all once new to social media, so always try and help someone new who is making mistakes.
Bad Netiquette
- Saying dark humor, inappropriate jokes, and sarcasm over the internet because it could be misunderstood.
-Saying insults and abuse (avoid conflict over the internet). Different opinions are fine, that is what makes the internet so great, but it is considered bad netiquette to insult other people because of their opinion. This behavior can result in you being banned from the social media platform all together.
-Making fake profiles, who are not you. This can cause psychological harm to the victim and can potentially destroy any relationships or friendships that have been made.

Digital law is related to children's internet safety because this law makes posting inappropriate or obscure content illegal. This lowers the chance of children gaining access to content like that. To stop this ongoing battle, we must teach younger generations about digital law. Students are 21st century learners, surrounded by new technology that they use everyday. If they do not know the digital law, they are most likely breaking it.

Lesson One : Netiquette

I would start off the lesson by showing the children the word and breaking it down in to sections to simplify it for them. After breaking down the word I will then explain it to them by saying it means being nice to other people online. I would relate it to the classroom rules by always being respectful to their peers. After explaining what it means and comparing it to classroom rules, I will show them a short video clip, the one I provided under Netiquette Video column. Next I will compose simple questions for them to see if they understand the meaning of the word. Questions: -If you would not say it to a persons face should you say it over the internet?
-Is being a bully in real life and being a bully on the internet the same?
-Do you think you should read your messages again carefully before sending them?
After evaluating the students answers to those questions I would then give them examples of good netiquette and bad netiquette while showing images, so it helps them visualize. To help them practice I will put up a game on the smart board for the students to participate in. This game will consist of statements on the board and I will call on individual students to come up to the smart board and drag the statements under bad netiquette or good netiquette. This will prove to me if the students truly understand it.

I will start this lesson off by asking them the rules to stay safe while they are alone in real life. Ex: staying away from strangers, don't talk to strangers, know their surroundings. I will then relate the rules for real life to over the internet. I will explain to them that real life rules apply to the rules over the internet. How crimes are illegal just like crimes over the internet are illegal, calling it digital law. Tell them how just like real life some things are not safe on the internet and to not talk to strangers over the internet.
