The Youth Essential Skills (YES) is a non-profit community-based organization with the vision to develop underserved youth for social responsibility in the community and in the workplace. YES strives to equip youth with essential soft skills through programs within our four primary modules: Social, Leadership, Health and Education. The William and Agnes Hoston Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of a couple who epitomized community leadership and service through advocacy for literacy, higher education, voter participation, and job creation. Together, William and Agnes, promoted the importance of education, and sacrificed so that all five of their children were able to obtain college degrees. They influenced and positively impacted so many lives, and this scholarship will allow this impact to continue. The purpose of this scholarship is to increase the number of underserved youth who are aspiring to attend higher education institutions. Although the scholarship targets all underserved youth, African American candidates will receive a higher rating.This is a $1000 scholarship for a graduating senior with a GPA 2.5 or higher.

2026 Minerva Scholarship Program: Women in California Leadership Foundation

Beginning, April 13, the Women in California Leadership (WiCL) Foundation Minerva Scholarship program will begin accepting online applications from eligible students who identify as women or girls. A total of 128 $3,000 Minerva Scholarships and one $10,000 Golden Minerva Scholarship will be awarded this year.

To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:

Be a full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited college or university OR be a graduating high school senior with written proof of acceptance at an accredited institution of higher learning.
Eligible students must identify as a woman or girl.
Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.
Submit a completed online application with all required supplementary documents by the application deadline. Please note: All materials must be submitted together online. We do not accept items submitted separately via mail, in person, or through legislative offices.

Complete scholarship requirements and details (including the application) are now available on the WiCL Foundation’s website: http://wicl.us/scholarship-program/. Answers to frequently asked questions can be found at: http://wicl.us/frequently-asked-questions/.

The deadline for submission is May 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. There are no exceptions.
