It's too hard to choose my favorite book of all time, but this is my most recent favorite. My kids and I love reading this series about a girl who has the power to see magical creatures. I love everything Christopher Paul Curtis has written, but this particular one about the first free-born African American child in a settlement in Canada is unforgettable. His trademark humor and narrative voice make it a top-notch read-aloud but the most astonishing part is how he can bring so much light, laughter and tenderness while still examining the painful truth of America's past. I have cried so many tears at the end of multiple reads of this book. It is beautiful. And heart-wrenching. And has the ability to forever change the kids (and adults) who read it. -Melissa

My mom loved to read aloud to me when I was growing up. It's how I fell in love with reading! The Wizard of Oz was the first chapter book my mom read to me. I felt so grown up that it wasn't just a picture book! We would curl up on the couch together and I would look at the illustrations while she read. I remember always begging her to read just one more chapter! The book has a lot of differences from the movie. Did you know that Dorothy's ruby red slippers are actually silver in the book? -Ms. Pearsall

My first book ever. I felt great starting a book and finishing it. I read it many times because I wanted to show my family I was a good reader. In response to my being proud they all asked me if I could in fact change book! They still tease me about this! (Roberto played silly jokes to his friends.. and I was a bit the same...) 🤪 .

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling- I can still remember the summer my mother gave me this book, a magical story between men and the animal kingdom! Knuffle Bunny Free is the third in a series of three books featuring Trixie and her beloved Knuffle Bunny toy. I love watching Trixie grow up from a baby to a bigger kid. How she responds to her real kid problems is different in each book. This is a beloved read aloud of all the first graders I've ever taught...that's a lot of children!

It was emotional and it had a sad ending, and connected my emotions with the girl's emotions. It's a beautiful story and inspires a lot. It made me cry but it was an amazing story that i read. It's also really nice, because the girl's life is complicated but amazing. It had a great influence on me.

Wings of fire is a great series. Alll the books made me sad that it ends at book 15. It makes me sad because I want the series to continue forever. This is book 11, and in the book allot changes. The dragon that you see in front is cald Blue. In this kingdom there are 3 tipes of dragons: Hivewings, Silkwings, and leafwings. Blue is a silkwing but as you hear in the name itself it says "silk". But Blue is a Flamesilk. His life is turned around. I like this book because it has lots of details. It made me want to be in the world of dragons. He has a massive adventure and I would love to be Blue and do that adventure for him.

This is a really good books it makes you think that some people get discriminated just for the color of the skin. I have not finished this book yet but it is a fast thriller and offers non stop excitement. An awesome detective, Robert Harris is a genius, one of my favorite authors. Up there with Roald Dahl and David Walliams. I love history and historical fiction.
