Por eso todos los restos del pasado son… como un tesoro de familia. 

Con su presencia nos recuerdan una parte de nuestra memoria. Cuando en 1527 llegaron allí los españoles empezaron a construir una ciudad a orillas del rió viejo en el lugar que le dicen La perla. La llamaron Santiago de Sebaco. Fue el lugar más importante de la zona. Su territorio abarca parte de Matagalpa, Jinotega, Las Segovias y Chontales. Más allá estaban las Selva Virgen, los indios que no habían sido dominados y los miskitos, aliados de los ingleses.
