Main Idea =
Lisa has been in the hospital for 2 days with her family. The doctors in the hospital told Lisa and Erik that their homes had been raided, and Erik fell apart. Erik has been losing his mind, screaming, crying. Now he feels humiliated because he was wrong about everything. Lisa’s father said that only a few hundred Jews have been captured out of 8,000. Lisa saw her friend Lissen from Jewish school a few days ago and Lisa started being friends with her again, they have been becoming really close with family feasts, dressing days, etc. Back to the hospital, a nurse came in saying, “prepare the children”. The nurse was injecting Sarah, and Lisa sinks down and wuns to the bathroom to throw up everything she ate. The nurse called the family to go inside an ambulance bus because the German boats were coming in. Lisa and her family hids in a bush, until she hears a loud voice screaming in pain, the man was a researcher. Lisa and her family slowly walked to their houses carrying the injured body of the researcher with them
Vocabulary =
Coastline = the outline of the coast
Wienerbrod - a Danish pastry
Questions =
How did the researcher get injured, did he get shot?
Why did they inject the kids in the hospital?
Predictions = The family will bring the researcher to the hospital, after thier is no sign of the Germans near them.
Connections = When the family helped the researcher while he was crying in pain It reminds me of when I saw a kid my age fall down on his bicycle deeply injured I helped him until he felt better.

The Germans said that the only boats you can use are fishing boats. Stefan asked Lisa to stay with him on a boat. Many things go through Lisa’s mind, Sweden, safety, mother, father, Sarah, the night, the fear. Lisa tells Stefan that she’ll stay. Stefan says that she needs to go, Mother, father, Sarah need you, and it’s too dangerous here. Lisa akss STefan so why are you here?'' Stefan replies by, “because someone has to. The family is in the hospital giving injections to the baby, Lisa tells her parents that she’ll stay, her parents disagree but Lisa goes before anything else happens. AFter the family sets on to the boat which goes out of Denmark. Lisa gives her family a kiss, and says that she’ll come back, she’s going to come back to her family. After the boat left, Lisa’s parents were crying, and Sarah was unconscious. Lisa's parents and little sister were leaving Denmark, and were only visible until the fog came through. Lisa was wondering what if the boast was stopped by the Germans, what if everybody in the boat was captured.
Connections = I watched a movie which had a family going to A safe country, while their country was in warzone, and their son who was a soldier needed to stay in the warzone country for his duty. This book reminded me of that movie, and Lisa reminded me of the brave soldier who was determined to help her country
Predictions = Lisa will regret what she did, by not hopping on the boat with her family, and wishing that she can just leave Denmark with her brother and see her family.
Vocabulary =
Hysterical = suffering from hysteria or being deeply emotional
Freedom council = A council in Denmark for the activities of various resistance groups.
Questions =
Why did Lisa want to stay and not leave Denmark?
What did the nurses in the hospital inject into the bodies of the kids?

Lisa, Stefan, and Jesper spend the rest of the night helping families get to their boats safely. Lisa slept, and woke up in a children's room. Lisa goes to the living room and finds Jesper and Stefan drinking coffee. Stefan tells Lisa that you're going to Sweden. Lisa asks Stefan if he’s going. Stefan says he doesn't want to go, it’s his country, and he’s going to fight until the war’s over. Stefan get’s a white pill from his pocket, Lisa finds out it’s cyanide, which is a pill that can paralyze people. Jesper tells Stefan to not take the pill and go to Sweden because there are many things that he can do in Sweden. Lisa can’t drink her coffee, she’s just staring at the pill. She’s wondering about Stefan-so handsome, smart, so young, staring at a pill. Lisa heard many things about the pill, she learned that captured people used them who have nothing to do in their lives. Lisa can’t look at the pill anymore, she wonders if the whole war is that little white pill.
Questions =
Can the Cyanide pill be able to kill people?
Why would Stefan want to swallow the pill if he is staying in Denmark to help the country?
Vocabulary =
Cyanide = A deadly chemical that is highly toxic
Trawler = A fishing boat used for fishing
Connections =
When Stefan was staring at the pill, it reminded me of the many movies I saw where someone loses something really important to them, and starts consuming pills and drinking alcohol to forget about the negative moments in their life. People consume pills because they think they have nothing else to do in their life and they want to forget about the state they're in. Stefan right now is in the middle of a war which is a really stressful time because he can get invaded by the Germans any time now. That’s why Stefan is willing to consume a Cyanide pill.

Main Idea =
The three friends were sitting down telling stories and happy moments in their life. Jesper tells a story of when he shot a collaborator in the starting of the War when he was young. They ready their guns and leave the house with flashlights in the night. The driver of a diary van tells them that a trawler will come here at 11 o’clock. They helped people to go on a rowboat, Stefan tells them to send a row boat back again. Finally, a rowboat returns. Lisa hops in the boat, Jesper gives Stefan a hug, and Stefan gives Lisa a kiss. Jesper said that he’s going to the next boat. Lisa hops on the boat, and after a while of thinking Stefan hops in Lisa’s boat. After a while the boat sank, and Stefan was about to take the pill, but the pill dissolved in the water. A miracle happens and a lifesaver is dropped, Stefan and Lisa get pulled up to the deck. Someone says welcome to Sweden.
Review of The Book

I loved this book. It had many memorable moments about the life of Lisa while in the war. Lisa was an astonishing character in my opinion, she was an average human being who was in a warzone, and that caused me to like the book more. The fact that she is an average human being makes the book more connectable. The book had a very good story about a girl who is living in a warzone, and her perspective/story about what happened while the German nazis invaded Denmark. This book has a good source of vocabulary and it keeps the reader willing to read the next chapter because every chapter ends off with a cliff. But this book had some negative stuff. The book was becoming really confusing mid-way because the author decided to speed up the timeline within each chapter of the book, making the readers confused about what period of time in the book they are reading. The author didn't just speed up the timeline but messed up the range of time between each chapter. For example, the first 5 chapters were going on in about the same time period, and later on the author had a timeline range of each chapter for 1 year, and then the author boosted it up to more years. In the last few chapters, the author didn't mess with the timeline, and each chapter had a range of one or even less of a day. But overall I liked this book and i’ll rate it 8.5/10
