         <description><![CDATA[<div>Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452. He was born out of wedlock to Florentine notary Ser Piero and a young peasant women named Caterina. He was raised by his father and stepmothers.&nbsp; Leonardo had no surname in the modern sense "da Vinci" simply meaning "of Vinci"; his full birth name was "Lionardo di ser Piero da Vinci", meaning "Leonardo, (son) of (Mes)ser Piero from Vinci". The inclusion of the title "ser" indicated that Leonardo's father was a gentleman.</div>]]></description>

In 1517, at the invitation of the French king Francis I, Leonardo moved to the Chateau of Cloux, near Amboise in France, where he died on 2 May 1519.</div>]]></description>
