I could count on seeing Sang at lunch, where he worked (and continues to work to this day) in the Nicholson Commons Dining Hall. Sang was genuinely positive, joyful, and wore the best smile as he spoke. He was excited to greet and be greeted, and this infectious character trait had its impact on me and so many others. Sang, thank you for bringing the joy of the Lord to me and so many others over the years!

Chad Van Soest
Class of 2003

Coach, always the legend...

The day I met Coach Carroll Land was at my brother's cross country meet. I was just a junior in high school, but Coach, who never met a stranger, was already rooting me on to come to PLNU. Through my days at Loma he was still that same encourager, always greeting me with a smile, hug, and a "Hey, Kiddo." A decade after we first met, my career path led me home where Coach was there again with that same warm smile, hug, and "Hey, Kiddo." I had the honor to work alongside Coach as I grew both in faith and career. He taught me so much about his story, baseball, and Loma history... but most of all he taught me about life and what it truly means to be a Christ follower. He cared so deeply, loved so well, and embodied servant leadership in every interaction. I am blessed to have had him and Ms. Barbara be part of my life to root me on through the big moments and small. Thanks for being my Loma Legend, Coach. Until eternity.

Sarah Binsfield
Class of 2008
Kinesiology

Dr. Jackson and Prof. Welch

In 1963, I was blessed to begin my college career at Pasadena College. My first semester, my speech teacher was Dr. James Jackson. He was an incredibly compassionate man. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, and one of the speech students had prepared her speech on President Kennedy, before the assassination. Her presentation was scheduled for two days later. Dr. Jackson asked her if she was able to do the speech, and she said she was. He made sure she was okay, and she did a great job. This is just one example of his care and concern for his students. I was also incredibly fortunate to have Prof. Reuben Welch for several of my religion classes. He made the subjects come alive and his faith shone through during every class. The personal care by all the professors was just one of the things that made my time at Pasadena College so special.

Jeanette Strong, Class of 1967

Professor Lodahl has got to be one of the happiest individuals I have ever met. I had him for a singular class and I will never forget him. On top of his uber-contagious golden retriever personality, he also gave some wicked good advice. He has inspired and continues to inspire me to push myself to my max while maintaining a positive attitude.
He was so wise I even wrote down something he said in one of his lectures: "Language shapes perception, perception shapes understanding". He said this out of nowhere like it was nothing and I was left astounded. He is intelligent, caring, wise, and most of all, an absolute pleasure to be around. I may have to remind him of my name every time I run into him but he truly cares for every one of his students.

I thank you for all you do for this campus and community.

Love you, Lodahl!

Colby Douglas
Class of 2023

Dr. Pintado goes way beyond what it means to be a Spanish Professor. Not only is she truly an inspiration in her craft and through her published works but the way that she engages and drives a classroom environment is delightful to have experienced. Her real life experience, her contextual knowledge, her literary knowledge and her fun spirit have made me take every single possible class that she has offered in my time at Loma. The times my peers and I just sit and talk about Dr.Pintado and our admiration for her are countless. She is a professional, she is a friend, she is a benevolently powerful figure and such a role model to all of us. Not only this but she has relentlessly been my best advocate and support system in all my endeavors on campus. She is amazing and I will forever tell anyone who will listen to take one of her classes or read her poetry books. A true emblem of my Loma experience and most definitely a Loma Legend!!

Lauren Gallagher
Class of 2024
Spanish and International Development

Their lessons in and out of the classroom ring true in my everyday and these women have been two of many examples that show it to be a fact that our Loma professors pour into us outside of the classroom just as much as they do inside of it. They live out their "why's" of teaching Communication Studies and seek out connection with their students -- pouring into my life personally with making their space a space for me and empowering my journey here at PLNU. They are something to be grateful for daily!

- Tess Schrupp
Class of 2025
