         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Church of England was the official church of Virginia. At first, the church leaders tried to discourage people from practicing other religions Eventually, however, some people demanded freedom to belong to different churches, and the Anglican Church allowed other Protestant groups as well. In Williamsburg, the local church was the center of religious activity.</p>]]></description>

         <title>College of William and Mary</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The College of William and Mary was named after King William III and Queen Mary II who started the school in 1693. In fact, four presidents-George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe,   and John Tyler-attended the college. Only boys were allowed to attend college, while girls, worked at home, or went to a dame school.</p>]]></description>

The governor's palace was made to impress visitors and to remind them of the king's power. It was three stories high. It had 25 servants and slaves to care for it. The governor's palace was where the governor did his official work, and passed laws and bills.</p>]]></description>
