The oil that comes out of the ground today is millions of years old, it started as tiny plants and animals that lived and died in the oceans. Heat from the inside of the Earth and chemicals are combined to change some of the remains into oil and natural gases. Lots of the World's oil lies under southwest Asia, this is one of the reasons this area was once under water.
