Before the New Testament established Satan as the leader of Hell, Belial was the one in charge. The name Belial means "the chosen one".  In the Old Testament, it is translated as worthless. Moloch is worshiped by some Israelis. He is one of Satan's strongest spirits. In Paradise Lost, he argues for a complete war on God. He cannot stand being defeated by God and surviving from that.

It is also associated with the greedy pursuit of gain. In Paradise Lost, he is called the "least erected" because he always has his eyes down looking for gold/money. He also tells the demons to make Hell home, and to be happy for what they have.
