Korea is divided 1945. US and USSR withdraw militaries 1949. North Korea invades South Korea 1950. Truman orders air and naval support for South Korea and calls for UN intervention 1950. U.S. troops invade at Inchon 1950.
The significance of the division of Korea is it kept USSR troops in the North and US troops in the South. The withdraw of millitaries kept USSR government in the north. The invasion of South Korea was a main spark to start the Korean war.

This war happend because the US was trying to stop the USSR from spreading communism in Korea. After both countries set troops in Korea they were prepaired to battle. This was the first time the US and USSR were able to confront eachother on the battle field, which ended in an armistice and kept communism in the north portion and capitalism in the south. This was a major turning point in the war, due to rising tensions and the want to settle conflicts through surrogate wars.

“Was Korea a Turning Point in the Civil War?” Bartleby, https://www.bartleby.com/essay/Was-Korea-a-Turning-Point-in-the-F33EWMPCJBHS.

Rotondi, Jessica Pearce. “What Caused the Korean War and Why Did the US Get Involved?” History.com, A&E Television Networks, 7 May 2021, https://www.history.com/news/korean-war-causes-us-involvement#:~:text=On%20June%2027%2C%201950%2C%20President,the%20aid%20of%20their%20allies.%E2%80%9D.
