I think the story depends most on the main character. The fairies and maleficent are not the protagonist so they do not matter as much. In your story, the main character was sleeping beauty who happens to represent misogynistic views. Similar to The Little Mermaid who gave up her tail for a pair of legs just for male acknowledgment.

Disney's main image is to appeal to children and therefore they want to make their films lighthearted and happy. This would explain why most of their films and stories end in happy ever after. However, as much as they try to hide the gruesome background behind some of their stories, they fail to hide it completely.

This pushes forth a misogynistic view that women depend on men when in fact both of these women are capable on their own.
