After having read about this in the Threshold Concepts book, I have once again gained a deeper understanding of the feminist goal. Specifically, a lot of what women lack in privilege is portrayed by male privilege. What I mean by this is that women do not have many of the privileges that men have in our modern society; for example, in many countries around the world there is a phenomenon known as female infanticide. Unfortunately, this is far too often the case in many countries around the world today. Countries like China and Saudi Arabia are notoriously known for their extreme lack of women in their population. This is because these countries have put great preference on males over females because of reasons such as passing on the family name, and producing progeny with familial characteristics.

The fact that women already understand that they might receive backlash from trying to voice their opinion or fight for their rights is simply unfair to them and speaks a lot about the current way we view women's opinions. They already have anticipated that they may be called things like 'a bitch' simply because they refuse to conform to society's norms. For an academic assignment, this picture might seem a little too raunchy, but the fact that people think that way is exactly why there should be no problem with this image. Males have the privilege to be shirtless in public places without anything being said to them, while women in our society cannot even breast feed their own children without being looked at in a disgusted manner, or being told up right that they cannot do that in public. The privilege of being able to take your shirt off may seem like a light subject manner that people should not really be upset with, but it is the lack of insight which makes people ignorant to these issues because they simply are oblivious to them because they do not have to suffer through it. ]]> 2017-10-05 00:45:53 UTC https://padlet.com/jose_blanco/cl6oi39tyyy6/wish/194122768
