Part 4: The Really Big Idea Critique pad

After finishing The really big idea sketch pad, five people were asked to have a look at The justice box idea, where they filled out their own Really Big Idea Critique pad provided to us. Overall the feedback varied from both critiques and some positive feedback. The asked people was also supposed to fill out different number reviews on each part of the really big idea sketch pad like “I believe the ventures choice of customer would lead to significant value creation”, and also on subjects like value proposition, the products core competency, and if the right people where on the team.

After reviewing all of them one could tell that there are some similarities. Some of the people had questions about rather or not if this was support to the real cases or fake cases. Therefore it might look like this did not come through, and after reviewing The Really Big Idea Sketchpad again, one could agree on this.

Another thing that was pointed out was if this product would be possible to make due to legal reasons, if it was real cases. “Important documents might not be possible to show to all”, according to Sandra, one of the people that reviewed the idea.

One of the people reviewing this also had a question about the price of this product, an another person pointed out that this is a small segment of potential buyers and that it might be too small for the product to succeed.

Most of the people gave a high score when asked if they believed the right people where on the team, but some gave a slightly lower score due that one felt like there were some people missing and another pointed out that people that will post on the app are missing. Hilde pointed out that it was good that lawyers where mention as one of the persons on the team on suggested people to be involved in starting this venture.

Overall, people came with different critiques but they also came with positive feedback. Overall the asked persons liked the idea and they liked that the value proposition, which was “to be involved in a case and make them feel like they can be helpful”. Someone also pointed out that “I believe it can be beneficial for both the uses and the people who are affected by the crime”.

If there was supposed to be done a The Really Big Idea Sketchpad V2.0, I would get the point forward if this where real cases or not. After getting all the comments in, I would maybe have do some changes in the product. First of I have to figure out if this is really possible to do with real life cases after being pointed out that this might not work in practice due to legal reasons. If so, a product of fake cases turned into a “game” for people to play, make them feel like how it is to be an investigator or a investigating lawyer is a possibility. The customer segment could still be the same and also this might open to more potential buyers here, hence to that it issent that “serious” anymore and real peoples life are not on the stake. Given the comment about a small segment that might be too small for the product to succeed, this also might be a good change for the product idea and when creating an updated sketchpad. Another thing that will be done in the Really Big Idea Sketchpad V2.0 is to get more people on the team, so the people reviewing the idea can see most of the people that is needed. The next time I will probably also use an online tool hence to people had some issues reading my handwriting. Getting the critique some changes to a V2.0 of the sketchpad will be done, but the main core of the product will stay the same.

According to Andy Stanly: "some of the most influential leaders and brands we know today were formed from a broken heart". He also states that every significant non-profit that has set its footprint in this world has started with a leaders broken heart. Examples of this are brands like Humanity and World Vision (Andy Stanley). Therefor a way to start getting an idea about a product or service one could this about what breaks once’s heart in the world? Common things might be racism, war, hunger and for some injustice. There has been several documentaries about true crime and people that have in wrongfully convicted in the last years. When watching these shows, and hearing about people that are in jail that might be there without committing the crime, I always feel like I wish there was something I could do. Therefor I wanted to create a product that would make it possible for people to be helpful in a case and at the same time help the lawyers and the convicted. I took inspiration from friend that told me about a similar product and I found it really interesting and made a “model” myself of the product. The really big idea sketch pad was used to describe this product that I choose to call “The justice box”. This is a product that people physical can enjoy and hold with their own hands. This product is sent to you in the mail box and contains documents, photos, maps and everything you need to solve a case, so the box varies from case to case. What makes this product standout and is The justice box core competency is an custom-made app. Here the user of this product is able to get the latest update about the real life case they have chosen, see more information and comment and interact what they believe might had happened.

When it comes to value proposition, the product idea is thought to be offering the user to make them feel like the can make a difference in a case, feel like they are being helpful and to be involved in a real life case. When it comes to what The justice box is offering the buyers, one could argue that the buyer and the customer with this product is the same, if so, the same as above would be stated. If not, it would to be to make a friend or a family member happy, give them something to do, or make them feel like they can make a difference in other people’s lives.

When it comes to the customer of this idea, it is suggested that there is a limited number, but that the uses and beneficiary of this product is true crime lovers with spare time on their hands that want to help in a case. As stated about the buyer might be the same person, if so, the buyer can be a family member or a friend that know about the users passion. When it comes to how dose the customer/user use the product? One could shortly say that the user is supposed to get a box in the mail filled with documents, photos, maps and everything needed to solve a case, including a custom-made notebook to write your thoughts.

To make this product come to life, one need different people on the job. When mapping this out, five main people is suggested. As Alexander Osterwalder stated “Even the best business models that looks great are after all only a set hypnotizes and guesses” (Stanford eCorner, 2012). Here an investor, marketer, lawyers, developer, and manufacturing people are suggested when starting this venture. They will bring with their experience in case solving, marketing, and making a physical product. The specific knowledge they bring can be in solving crime cases and legal rights, social media knowledge, and app development.

The really big idea sketch pad has now been used and has started the idea about a potential product, but as Stave Blank have said: “no business plan service the first contact with customers”. Even though he states this, planning is everything, and this is the first step to start evolving the idea on the road to potentially start executing it (Stanford eCorner, 2012).

Part 2: Blogpost

Hallo my people, welcome to my newest blog post! Today I will be telling you guys about what I have learned about networking the last weeks and what I do personally do when I meet other people and network.

This last weeks I have been attending Mona Anita Olsen´s class here at the University of Stavanger. I’m currently in her Service Innovations and International Entrepreneurship class, in my master degree program of International Hospitality Management. One of the things we have talked about in her class is LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a great tool for networking and before this course I have not had the pleasure of using LinkedIn. The networking tool have crossed my mind a few times, but I have not been actively looking for a job at this moment, so I thought this wasn’t something of my interest. After attending Olsen´s class her I have learned that there is a use for this tool for me. I have also discussed this tool now with my fellow friends and I have seen that this tool is well used to some of them.

Other than starting to use this tool and get to know it, I have not done so much of a networking this semester, but I have been on a exiting job interview recently where I got to connect with a nice girl how interview me. On this meeting I got to see for myself how I really approach meeting other people that are not my friends or my classmates. I would say I am a person that always comes in with a smile and great people with a good handshake. I always try to be polite and asked her how her day has been this far. In the future I will be using LinkedIn and attending events or conferences that are within the field I´m working in or where I want my future workplace to be to get on my networking game and to connect with people, I want to gain network momentum, which is the primary outcome of the networking process (Kaandorp, Burg, & Karlsson, 2019, p. 13).

After what I have learned in Olsen´s course and after reading “Initial Networking Processes of Student Entrepreneurs: The Role of Action and Evaluation” by Mariëtte Kaandorp, Elco van Burg, Tomas Karlsson, I have gained some knowledge about the following up process with people. One of the things that this study explored is that how student entrepreneurs react to nonresponses when trying to network with other people is crucial (Mariëtte Kaandorp et al., 2019, p. 16). I personally would try to reach out to people more than once if I did not get any responds and I would try to do it in a polite way. When talking about following up other people that answered my on f.ex. LinkedIn or people I have meet I will try to stay in touch with them on LinkedIn. I would want to connect with them there, like their posts and stay connected from time to time. If I spot them at an event or conference I would stop by them say hallo and have I chitchat with them, f.ex. at TedX Stavanger or Startup weekend Stavanger.

When talking about other supplement to my in-class experience I know that it is possible to go on CV-workshops, LinkedIn courses and how to apply for jobs lectures that can help my get closer to getting my dream job. I am thinking about attending this this semester or the next to get prepared for when I´m finishing up my master degree. Other than that after attending class I also get my homework done, where I have also learned more about this subject. I try to sit at campus from time to time, both by myself and with others. It is good for me to also discuss things from class with my fellow classmate. I also do some reading back home and I enjoy that as well. I need to sit down and look at things more than once and it´s good to do it in a quiet environment. What I like about this course (Service Innovations and International Entrepreneurship) is that we get to learning things by watching film of a conference by professors from all over the world. It is interesting to hear their thoughts and it’s good to do something’s else than only reading books. I recently watched a video where Elizabeth Weil talks about non-negotiables for networking and how this can facilitate success, so that got me thinking, what are things I don’t want to do? Well, I believe my non-negotiables is family dinner and my monthly friend-club. This is something I want to keep as much as possible because this is how I am raised and I want to keep this sort or “tradition”. The idea that Wail is talking about is to find out what are the things you don’t want to give up, keep them and for the rest of time work and do your best. If I really want something I would go for it, but family dinner and friend-club is something I would keep as much as possible, hence to I also find the work and life balance important.

Now got a go and get me some snack, before I start watching Alexander Osterwalder on Youtube and see him talk about the Business Model. I blog to you later!
