Apache Pilots take off by using the collective lever (the main control) they pull the lever up to increase the power of the mighty Apache's engines and also to angle the rotor blades to be able to get the helicopter up and off the ground, and to go back down pilots need to push the lever down very carefully to land otherwise the helicopter can go down too fast and crash.(My Dad has some friends who think landing is harder than taking off.)

Apaches require two pilots to operate and is a four-bladed, double engine helicopter, and started being used by the army in 1984 after being built by the McDonnel Douglass Helicopter Company.  

Apache Helicopters were originally designed for TANK DESTRUCTION!  Apaches carry big missiles that when fired can stop tanks in their tracks.

Apache armor is super strong it can shrug off small rounds with barley even a scratch, and it's forward fuselage section can absorb energy from a 20 ft/sec crash and keep the 2 man crew unharmed.

I'm actually named after an   Apache Helicopter Pilot my Dad had a friend named Nicholas DiMona who was an Apache Pilot just like him, and once Mr.Dimona was flying late at night with his co-pilot pilot for training, and they got distracted when they started looking for another helicopter they knew was in the area, (Wasn't an Apache though.), and they didn't realize the helicopter was losing altitude and then the helicopter's floor clipped the top of a tree, and instead of staying calm Nick panicked and pulled back on the main lever control to make the helicopter go up, but it was too much power too fast and it caused the rotors to slow down from the speed.  The helicopter didn't have enough spin from the rotor blades to keep it up in the air any longer, and the chopper crashed killing Nick and his Co-pilot and after that happened my parents decided to name me after him.]]> 2018-05-04 20:56:47 UTC https://padlet.com/100113411/ckxea6au7s89/wish/258166051 100113411 https://padlet.com/100113411/ckxea6au7s89/wish/258707273 Apache Pilots also wear a special helmet with a monocle-like eyepiece called the Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) that can do everything from switching to a night vision mode to helping aim the weapons, also the helmet helps shield the pilots head obviously, as does the rest of the flight suit Apache Pilots wear when flying.

After the Apache was invented it replaced The Bell AH-1 Cobra Helicopter which proved itself quite useful in the Vietnam War now the Cobra Helicopter has been kicked to the curb, and The U.S. Army has almost 800 Apaches in several variants and various modifications.  

Apaches also carry a 30mm cannon and a M23OA1 chain gun with an incredible fire rate of 625 rounds in a minute.

There is also a very advanced Helicopter called The Longbow Apache that can track moving vehicle targets, and also track 256 targets all at once.

Apaches have now become one of the U.S. Army's most trusted helicopter for it's amazing armor and power and is still trying to be improved to this day. 

The Apache Helicopter helps the Army everyday by providing ground troops with air fire support, so even though soldiers do most of the work the Apache helps them greatly, so thank you McDonnel Douglass Helicopter Company for giving us The Strong and Mighty Apache.
