in the hobbit, their quest is to retrieve what is rightfully theirs from what took it. as the go on this journey they meet many people and face several obstacles and side missions. In Percy Jackson, they need to return the lightning bolt, before the gods release their wrath. They also face obstacles.

in brave, Merida believes she can push boundaries and break roles and change her fate, and be who you want to be. In the hobbit, Bilbo is forced on this journey with Gandalf and several dwarves. Bilbo leaves behind all that he knows; food, and his simple life in his simple hobbit hole. This connects with brave because bilbo is read to shed his skin and push boundaries outside of his comfort zone.

brave takes place in Scotland, in Europe. The
hobbit also takes place in Europe. While most believe that the hobbit takes place in middle earth, a fictional land, tolken said himself it takes place in Europe, 6000 years ago.

"All I can say is that, if it were ‘history’, it would be difficult to fit the lands and events (or ‘cultures’) into such evidence as we possess, archaeological or geological, concerning the nearer or remoter part of what is now called Europe" - a letter tolken wrote in 1958

the hobbit puts the read in this mode of non stop reading, setting an adventurous tone, keeping the reader in constant suspense. i feel as though the glass castle resonates with this tone as well. while the glass castle is non fiction, and does not have goblins or fire breathing dragons, This book tells the story of Jeannette Walls, a little girl surviving with her 3 siblings in poverty, with a dash of adventure, and that 'cant put the book down' feeling
