I think literacy is so extremely important. There are many different types of literacy. To state a few, there are digital, civil, financial, media, etc. You cannot do much without being literate. I think literacy focuses on both skills and broader goals. The goal is to become literate within the subject or the area needed, which is provided by learning the skills. Being literate opens the door to success, and it is hard to do anything without it. Hard to follow a map, read a book, use the internet, find road signs, communicate online or through text, etc. Without literacy, we would still be living in the stone age.
