They wanted to be the first New Americans to reach the Pacific Ocean. They had some help on this journey, by some Indians mainly Pocahontas. Pocahontas helped guide Lewis and Clark. Along the journey Lewis stayed off the boat studding nature, Clark stayed on the Keelboat charting the courses. Later they decided to split up into two groups so they could study more of the Louisiana Purchase, While the groups were split up Clark thought Lewis was an Elk so he shot Lewis cause if it's brown it's down, the shot went through Lewis's left thigh making a painful wound. Hamilton decided to pull a "move" in this duel. The duel in 1807 a year after Lewis and Clark returned from their expedition has begun. The duel reef person said "fire",Hamilton shot high on "purpose" while Burr shot and hit in the stomach. Hamilton claims to have shot high on purpose but everyone else says he probably just saying that cause he missed or shot to early.
