Pam,
11 years ago when I started as a bewildered and overwhelmed first year teacher, I was lucky enough to have you on my team. Some days after a long day, I would wander into your room, and without having to say anything you'd just hand me some chocolate (dark and delicious, always). We spent many (far too) late nights at Oyster, and you always were kind enough to offer me a ride. On those voyages up Connecticut you imparted wisdom and we commiserated and I'm so grateful that you took me under your wing that first year!
All these years later, I have been so in awe of your passion, dedication and raw talent (schoolwise, bakingwise, and gardenwise).
Thanks for always keeping it real. Please come visit us (with cookies). Or I might just keep showing up at your house- let my fave RIer know. Hehe.

You have been really nice to me in my difficult first year in Adams, and you are always by my side whenever I need help, or comfort. All of my favorite teachers are in my first school (Bruce Monroe at Park View) in the US, and you beet them all. I will definitely be crying on the last day of school. You have been a amazing teacher and have helped me when I have needed help and I am very sad that you will not be teaching my brother, Noah, next year, when he is in fourth grade. Dear Ms. Ross, thank you for being an amazing science teacher this year. This is my first year at Adams, and my first year were science is a longer class. This year science was a great class. I learned much more than other members of my family did then when they were young. There are so many memories we've shared over the years and besides the worms in the library here is the one that come to mind immediately:
I believe it was your first or second year at OA. We were in KC Lewis, and I experienced a heart-wrenching personal tragedy. I received many cards and letters but I will never forget yours. I'm obviously paraphrasing but you said that you were so sorry for my loss and then said, "I can cook". While I'm not sure I availed myself of your cooking then, I have since been lucky enough to experience your's and Barry's food and wine and wonderful hospitality- plus, of course, we have Shadow:) OA will never be the same without you but I live 20 minutes away from you, and you can cook and I can eat:))))

Inspiring and teaching everyone (not just kids!)

Pam,

I’m sure as you are reading these, you can see the lasting impact you have made throughout the years, and that you are truly loved by all.

While the students are the most important, I want to remind you that your impact, encouragement, and expertise stretch far beyond the elementary age students and impact your peers alike.

When I first joined OA in 2015 as a teacher’s aide, I knew little pedagogy and was intimidated. Not only did you take me under your wing to show me the ropes, but you went above and beyond to mentor me, answer my questions, and even let me take the lead often (which was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time!) You always knew how to push me in a way that would grow me, while also being super patient and understanding.

Regardless of how I was just a fresh newbie and you were a loved seasoned veteran, you treated me as an equal with respect, and cared about (and even solicited) my opinion often. Please know this was never lost on me.

I will always admire your passion, and how you never stopped wanting to better yourself for your students. You always were enrolling in cohorts of professional development or fundraising for something so your kids could have a better experience.

You are also funny and down to earth, a person that your students and colleagues alike feel like they could be safe with or confide in.

Thank you for living each day as your true, authentic self, and being all of our own personal cheerleader. Thanks for being an amazing mentor and inspiration, and through it all, a sincere friend.

I feel so lucky to have worked under you and then alongside you, and you will always have a special place in my heart. Please know that if and when you and Barry want to lean into your retirement and travel the world, I will happily host you and get ready to laugh with you again.

THANK YOU for modeling what it can look like to love your children like crazy but also be able to let them go (and trust their unique paths and still love them like crazy). I hope I am able to do that.

I can only imagine how much better our world would be if everyone approached their work, their relationships, their life like you do, asking "Hmm, I wonder how I can improve?"

Since the day I first met you during interviews for a DC innovation fellowship, I knew you were a special type of educator and person who took a learner's stance EVEN THOUGH YOU ALREADY KNEW SO MUCH. It was such a thrill, years later, to have you educate my kids. You introduced them to design thinking and processes--mindsets and skills they can carry with them beyond the science classroom to just about every challenge they tackle.

OA is a special place and you are a perfect example of why. You leave behind an amazing legacy and an entire community of students, families & educators who are better, more empathetic, and more committed to improvement because of you.

Dear Pam,
I want to wish you a wonderful retirement! I know that this frees you up to pursue other passions and spend more time with family which is very important. We will miss you at OA! You have always been energetic, enthusiastic, thoughtful and creative with your teaching and your other contributions to our school. You are so energetic and youthful that I can’t even imagine you are at an age where you can retire. I’m so lucky Kalpana had you as a science teacher! She loved your class and learned so much! You not only helped her academically, but socio-emotionally during the transition to the Adams campus. She loved gardening club with you (and I learned a thing or two about gardening from you and hope to continue to do so). I have enjoyed our time together on the LSAT where your contributions have been very thoughtful and important. I’m very sad Priya won’t have you as her science teacher - especially since she loves science! Your shoes will be hard to fill! You will always be part of the OA community! Sending you the best wishes for the next stage of your life!

Thank you so much for being my teacher in 4th grade. I really enjoyed your class and I’m sad to hear you’re leaving because I really wanted my sister to have you too. I also really enjoyed gardening club with you. Happy retirement!!!

What a fixture and force you are in our school community! You have worked across the school in multiple grades, content areas, positions, and with almost every person here - and have brought SO much knowledge, energy, positivity, collaboration, humility, and impact in each role. Thank you for all the love and service you have given to our school; we are all better and stronger because of it.

After all of your tireless work, I am so HAPPY for you to get to retire and ENJOY!! I am grateful for all the ways I got to work with you at school and am even more grateful to have developed our friendship and look forward to spending time with you OUTSIDE of school and hear about all of your wonderful adventures!
