Each November thousands of literacy educators from across the country make the journey to a Convention that inspires their practice and rejuvenates their profession. They leave with strong strategies and best practices for teaching literacy, language, and composition. They learn new ideas for delivering instruction that engages students and addresses the most pressing needs within the school and district.

NCTE’s Convention is the most historic annual literacy convening for teachers and educators. Now celebrating its 109th consecutive year, the historic event connects educators to the most passionate and energetic minds in literacy. Attendees can expect to hear from leading educational voices as well as nearly 300 national authors, all engaging together around the pressing topics of the field. Join us to establish new allies in the work of excellent teaching, new connections with luminaries and authors, and enough new books to fill entire shelves in classroom libraries. Roots: The Minneapolis English Teachers’ Club dates back to November 17, 1919. That year a Minnesotan, Joseph M. Thomas was President of the National Council of Teachers of English. Three members of this club also became NCTE Presidents: Rewey Belle Inglis (1929), Dora V. Smith (1936), and Luella B. Cook (1956). The idea for forming an NCTE affiliate was born on March 23, 1957 by two professors, Harold B. Allen (who became NCTE President in 1961) and T. A. Barnhart, returning by train from CCCC in Chicago.
