TEACHING CONTEXT

The school where I work is big and there are beauticians, hairdressers, waiters and cooks. This year I am teaching to beauticians. I have classes with students coming from 9-10 different countries (Brasil, Romania, Moldavia, Morocco, Algeria, Poland, Latvia, China, Nigeria, ecc.).

I need new strategies to afford these classes and create a good atmosphere.

In my school we have all the technology we need: laboratories, tablet pcs, computer science labs, interactive whiteboards in every classroom, e-diary.....

Globe at Night is an international campaign to raise public awareness about the impact of light pollution. The programme invites citizen scientists to measure their night sky brightness and submit their observations from a computer or a smartphone. Light pollution threatens not only our ‘right to starlight,’ but can also affect energy consumption, wildlife, and health. Over the last 9 years, people in 115 countries have contributed to more than 100,000 measurements, making Globe at Night the most successful light pollution awareness campaign to date!

Meteorologists acquire, process and interpret data from instruments on land, at sea, in the sky and in space for use in weather forecasting and climate monitoring.

Hydrologists play a vital role by studying the water cycle – the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth – and its impact on the distribution and supply of water. They are able to assess the quantity and quality of water resources available for meeting the needs of society (for example, in agriculture).

GeoTag-X is a research project that asks you to recognise the important information in a photo and create relevant, structured datasets. There are two ways to contribute. The main way is answering specific questions about images. One other way is finding photos for active projects. Without photos, the applications on this website will not give much information. To help you do this an add-on for Firefox is available and allows you to send photos directly to the server while you are browsing the web.

WOW reflects recent advances in technology and how weather observations can be made. At the same time, the growing world of social networking makes it relatively easy for anyone to get involved and share their weather observations. The Met Office wants to grow the weather-observing community by asking anyone to submit observations. This can be done using all types of equipment, so there are no cost restrictions.
