The quote that I found most interesting was from Holden's past; "She was smart even when she was a very tiny little kid. When she was a very tiny little kid, I and Allie used to take her to the park with us, especially on Sundays" (76). This quote shows a reminiscence of the good times of Holden's life. Many other quotes could demonstrate this, but these particular sentences have both Allie and Pheobe. We can interpret from these sentences the tenderness and sincere love that Holden has for his siblings and that being with them was some of the happiest moments of his life. Now that Allie died, he only has Pheobe left which even makes his sister more dear to him.

Holden enters the lavender room with the intention of sitting alone and having a drink. He was turned down when he mentioned his order and decided on a coke. After sitting there for a little bit he realizes a group of girls. Confidence rises in him and he asked the blonde to dance. The first impression he received from her was that she was smart and a great dancer. he soon saw that "She was really a moron"(80). Holden tries to act older than he is and gets caught up in playing that mature role. He lets go of his high skepticism toward other people and lets the pretty blonde get the best of him. This shows the different views of adults vs. kids. When he tries to imitate an adult he thinks less and acts more.

" She started jitterbugging with me"(95). So I chose this quote because I had no idea what the heck "Jitterbugging" was. However, me and Ford looked up what it was in 1st Period and well we found out that it was a type of dance that was really quick and fast pace. I think that this dance resembles and goes back to how in the fourth or fifth chapter, Holden was dancing all around the bathroom while talking to Stradlater about Jane. So I think that this goes back to Holden saying that he likes to dance and fidget and move when he is excited. I also thought that it as interesting that they chose the "Jitterbug" because I did not realize that the time period was so far back in time.

"except for a few pimpy-looking guys, and a few w****-looking blondes, the lobby was pretty empty" (90). This quote stuck out to me because not only is he acting like a normal regular teenager but he's probably over exaggrating what they girls and guys really looked like. Theres many many examples of Holden over exaggerating a situation or even lying about it sometimes. I think this quote is different from other because he never knew the girls or guys but he still called them names like any other teenager would. He's so young and he's acting mature labling people. I feel like this quote just overall describe what time of person really is. He definitely goes around judging a book by its cover.

The quote that I found most interesting in this chapter is when Holden gives an in depth description of his sister saying," You never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life"(87). The way that Holden details his sister is very mature. He's not like a typical teenager in that he values his siblings at a very young age. He doesn't just think of her as his annoying little sister, he thinks of her as her own unique, amazing person. He sees things in her that most other people probably wouldn't notice or wouldn't care about. He most likely places this high value on her from Allie's death. He knows how easily he can lose his siblings so he values them before they leave him.

I thought it was interesting when the blonde girl asked, "How old are you, anyhow?" Holden always got so annoyed with people asking him this and didn't really think that your age mattered a whole lot. I think he acted older than he really was and that he wishes he was older and out of school. He wanted to buy drinks and go out and dance staying up late. He also always went for older women who were much older than he was and didn't see anything wrong with it at all.

To me this reveals a lot about Holden's character. The quote affirms his dishonesty, the context proves his need for attention, any kind of attention that he can acquire. I feel the context revolving around the quote unveils Holden's perspective towards women, he likes them, but he likes them in a way that almost seems like "mommy issues". He talks about wanting a relationship rather than physical intimacy but, the girls of the lavender room? he was hitting on them. He has this reoccurring need for female attention.

This quote was said after Holden was giving three thirty year old women the eye. It stood out to me because Holden is a still a guy under twenty and he is judging thirty old women for laughing at him after hitting on them.

This shows how holden cares about his little sister, this is really special because most siblings don't like each other even if they are nice to each other most of the time. this has to do with Holdens brothers death from cancer, and he wants to protect something he loves. He doesn't want to lose another part of his family again.

This is the talk of someone who feels love for another person. Whether they’re just friends or not is not determined yet. But either as a friend, or something more, Holden loves this girl. And he misses being with her, and just being in the same general area as her. He misses the things they used to do together, and he is reminiscing about the good times.

“It was one of those places that are very terrible to be unless you have somebody good to dance with, or unless the waiter lets you buy real drinks instead of cokes” (98). I found this quite interesting because it’s another symbol of holdens loneliness. It is just a bar but most people would go with their friends, especially around holdens age. This just shows how little friends he truly has and how alone he really feels. Holden does try to act mature and happy by dancing with the girl but you can tell deep down he’s sad. Holden isn’t in a good place because he has no one to help him or support him.

‘“I can’t sit in a corny place like this cold sober. Can’tcha stick a little rum in it or something?’” (91) I think this quote is extremely interesting it shows how Holden never seems to be content with places that others would find relaxing or beautiful. There must be some internal issue inside himself for him to not be happy by just sitting in the lavender room, it’s almost that loneliness theme again since he says there’s not many pellets his age in there, Irene obvious he is lonely and is trying to fill that void with something which is why he asks for the alcohol. It just further demonstrates his problems in a nonchalant way.

"...I damn near gavey kid sister Phoebe a buzz, though. I certainly felt like talking to her on the phone" (75). This quote is important for many different reasons. It shows yet another sibling of Holden's. It introduces the theme of red hair equating to intelligence. It shows Holden's homesickness. It's yet another example of Holden not showing the whole truth, but still just being human. Holden goes on to describe everything about her and how much she misses her, but in the end doesn't call her. Holden talks of Phoebe until the middle of page 77, which shows her pure importance to Holden.
