         <description><![CDATA[<div>research facts <br>- About 3,000 years ago, people in northern Europe invented skates to get across frozen lakes. The blades were made from animal bones. Iron blades were invented about 1,000 years later. </div><div><br></div><div>-At the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924, Gillis Grafström (SWE) won the men’s gold medal in figure skating. Herma Planck-Szabo (AUT) won the women’s competition. The winners in pairs were Helene Engelmann and Alfred Berger (AUT).
