After rotating with the different groups, I learned that the Cold War affected many children to the point where they were forced to evacuate and leave their families. They even had videos on how to duck and cover specifically for children, which shows how dire the situation is. However, when the children are separated from their families like this, it may cause some moral issues when facing a situation where you have to survive, like in Lord of the Flies. I was surprised to hear about how in the codes of conduct, the overlapping circles only had two points: stealing and obeying the rules. It did not mention murder or any other serious cases. The most profound picture is the one below, that shows children evacuating by rail.

After learning about all of the topics, I have realized that war is a terrible thing. They result us to make terrible weapons, such as Hydrogen Bombs. President Truman had to make operations in order to test this deadly weapon. It even got so bad that kids had to be shown videos in school to prepare kids in case a bomb is dropped in their area. Even worse, parents sent their kids away to keep them safe from the war or moved into fallout shelters and would not come out for fear of a bomb dropping in case it did. I also learned about dystopian societies, and how they had to live under harsh conditions and about the different qualities of being a leader. The most interesting thing I learned was Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development. The way Lawrence Kohlberg describes the stages of moral that people go through interests me. Also, his dilemmas are a challenge to answer and require lots of critical thinking on what is right or wrong. The most powerful image I saw was Bert the Turtle telling you to search for shelter. What made this so powerful is the fact that they had to teach kids, KIDS for crying out loud, on how to prepare in case a bomb dropped on them. People who haven't even lived 1/4 of their entire life have to prepare for fatal situations.

After meeting my groups, the most profound thing that remains with me is. were the fallout shelters and what they do which is to avoid exposure form nuclear blasts. I was surprised to learn about dystopia which is a society characterized by human misery, as squalor oppression, disease, and overcrowding and i was really of the rules and no freedom. The most powerful image I saw was basically the children all being separated by their parents from the evacuation of WW2. I know the parents want best for the children and let them go to live their own, trying for them to be more responsible.

If you really think about it, nuclear bombs are used for greed because dictators want to have the world all to their own civilization, because they want to be the king (dictator) of everything and everyone on the planet.

After completing this project I have learned that children are affected a lot during the Cold War. They recall the day of the evacuation and being separated from their parents and having an older sibling being the 'guardian' in the situation. I also learned that fallout shelters were built for protection and to decrease the number of deaths during the war. They were made with heavy and dense materials to protect the people from the fallout. I was also very interested in Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development because he suggests scenarios in which something that the person might be doing is against the law, but you might have to do it in order to save someone's life or loved one.

After learning about all of the different topics that our class researched, I have learned that war changed the way society functions. It caused people to create horrible weapons, like the hydrogen bomb. President Truman put people's lives in danger, just to test out his new weapon. War was also the cause of the separation of many families. In Table 7's presentation, I learned about dystopian societies. As said in the definition of the word 'dystopia', this kind of society caused humans to live in misery. In Table 8's presentation, I learned that people had different morals once the war started. Some thought that it would be okay to steal if you had a good enough reason. Personally, I would not agree with that. Lastly, I learned that during the war, people were fighting for power. There were many people who wanted to be the leaders, and all of them thought that they had the qualities of leadership. However, only one person could actually be in control. This caused turmoil in society. Overall, I have learned that war was a horrible thing; it caused destruction, and left society broken.

After hearing all of the presentations, I have learned many things about the time and setting of the Lord of the Flies. For example, to learn a plan during an attack, children were to watch a video of a turtle as an example of their procedure. In addition, people also went into fallout shelters in time of attack to keep safe. Children were even evacuated and sent elsewhere during the World War II, because life was not safe for them. In addition, I learned about three different types of codes of conduct: the ten commandments, the boy scouts, and the knowledge of a kindergartner. This has a connection to the Lord of the Flies, because it will be interesting to see whether they abide to those rules without adults bossing them around. I also learned about the stages of moral development, where I had to make moral decisions that could go either way.

After traveling to various table groups, I learned that the nuclear war was a very dark and grim time in history. People were locking themselves up in concrete buildings to avoid radiation from the bombs. Children were effected especially by this war. Children were being chosen by government dictators to be slaves or servants and being separated from their families. They were being taught to duck and cover by Bert the Turtle, and they never knew when the next bomb could hit. Older siblings were having to take responsibility over their younger siblings and having to act as guardians. I am very thankful that we do not live in that constant fear of being bombed at any moment.

After earning about each topic, I can really piece together what I have learned. In the Cold War, everyone was afraid of what may happen to society. They built hydrogen bombs, not only as a defense but as an attack. They built shelters and showed everyone how to be ready, as seen with Bert the Turtle, and table 2's presentation. Everyone lived in constant fear, just wondering if they would live another day. It seemed like a sad, yet completely realistic thing that could occurred. I can take a guess that they believed that the world would become a dystopian wasteland. They would have no freedoms, and they would be afraid of everything. It would be the compete opposite of the utopia we all strive for. They would have to follow moral laws. Overall, the realness of this situation, as seen in Japan, and the fear that it caused made the whole situation very, very scary. I can only imagine how, in The Lord of the Flies, these children will use these to survive on their own.

After finishing this Activity I have learned that the war II has caused many problems in Germany with safety. Many families were concerned about their safety so they would live in a shelter for months on end because they were afraid of a bomb killing them. I have also learned about the Duck and Cover. Duck and Cover was a drill made to protect everybody if there were an explosion of a bomb, Duck and Cover was also a drill to keep everybody in ease, instead of a state of panic. Last, my group had Quality Of A Leader, this was meant to teach us what was expected from a leader, action wise. These articles were made to teach us about what qualities were expected for a person to be a leader. One quality was positivity. A leader is supposed to be positive at all time and is expected to make positive choices for his people and for his leadership. For me if a leader has made one bad choice and that choice has affected the people around me and myself I would see what the leader has to say for himself and if this leader wants any justice for his choice. If not, this leader will be judged.

With all of the information I've received, I realize self protection is one of the most important uses in order to manage your survival. This society does not know what and when to expect a tragedy. If there has been an incident, such as the Hydrogen Bomb, you need to be aware of finding shelter, taking care of family, and evacuating. If parents were not eligible to take care of their family, in any given circumstance, siblings always have to be ready to fill in. With Dystopia, children without a home would be placed with the government, under their conducts. I was surprised to hear that homes built of concrete are able to manage through a radiated bomb.

After rotating around all of the stations, I learned about the hydrogen bomb that caused people to evacuate England, as well as the fallout shelters that people could stay in while waiting for the war to pass over. These things created a better understanding of what the Cold War was like as far as being their in person.

After having many different people come to our table and share about their slide and us sharing ours to them, I have come to learn that war can ruin lives and countries. I learned that during the Cold War, many people had feared for their lives due oppression. The oppression was due to threats of hydrogen bombs, which could kill enormous amounts of people. This caused many people to have to live in fallout shelters for months on end. This surprised me the most, because this meant that people would be so scared of radiation that they feared for there lives so much, that they would not see even a drop of sunlight for months on end. The picture that surprised me the most of all was the poster that had said "If you ride alone, you ride with Hitler." This means that during the Cold War and time of oppression that things were so scarce, especially cars, meaning that you would have to share your cars with others, or you are pretty much letting people die.

During these presentations that I was taught, I learned that the first bomb was called "Mike Shot." I also learned that people built a fallout shelter. Which is to avoid exposure to harmful fallout from a nuclear blast. The purpose for the fallout shelter was for safety. For example, people felt threatened that there was going to be a war coming, so they hid on the fallout shelter to feel safer because it is built with pretty strong materials. It is also sad to heard that the kids get separated from their parents and they would most likely get chosen as slaves or anything that the person chose them for. There was sometimes no homes left for children because it was a big amount, so as an effect they had to live in government housing.

After this activity, several new bits of information about the subject of nuclear weapons have come to my attention. First, I learned that huge amounts of bravery and leadership were needed for any kind of defense against the bombs. I also learned things such as the traits of leadership, moral developments, actions of the government, and other things used during the time period. In conclusion, I see now that there is a lot more preparation for bombs than just duck and cover, and that there are not just physical preparation, yet mental preparations as well, such as preparing for separation, preventing mass chaos, and bringing out specific traits of heroic people.

Once I went around informing people about my slide and them informing me about their slide I have come to conclusion that I have learned a lot about the cold war and how it went down with public and all kids that had to live through it all. I also learned a lot about psychology during the war and how it worked. And I was confused about the Dystopian and the Utopian society because aren't they both controlled firmly by the government and aren't they both very isolated from other societies. I also learned how you always have to learn to duck and cover at anytime because you never know when the bomb will be dropped.

I learned that the war effected the kids majorly. They had to get ready for all these extreme events that could possibly happen at a young age.It is very surreal watching the drill video as it was creepy thinking that kids watched this and needed to learn it.The Hydrogen bomb was the biggest impact on everyone people had to live in bomb shelters to have a chance at living. They stayed there for several months eating canned food afraid to go outside because of the radiation and the bombing threats really traumatized everyone and made them paranoid. Many families had to be separated because of the space of the shelters or some kids who evacuated of the the area on a plane to get away from the bombings but the parents had to stay. The dystopia is crazy to hear about because usually what we hear in movies we go wow thats crazy, how can they do that, should´nt they go to jail.It actually happend though in England everything was so bad the government was going rogue not caring about everyone, only for themselves. So everyone was on there own is was just a living abyss.

I have thought about the atomic bomb before, but now I understand a lot better. I didn't know there was names for all the tests they did on atomic bombs. I also didn't know about Burt the Turtle and how in the 1950's teachers taught kids to duck and cover if there was a bombing. The best topic that caught my mind is how they shipped kids away if there was a planned attack.

I LEARNED THAT ANY WAR CAN MESS UP ANYTHING INCLUDING THE LIVES AND THINGS THAT WEREN'T EVEN INVOLVED. I THINK THAT WAR IS A MEANING THAT SOCIETY WANTS TO CHANGE EITHER FOR THE GOOD OR THE BAD. THIS REFLECTS ON THE SLIDES THAT WE ALL DID BECAUSE WE SAW HOW MUCH THE WAR CHANGED KID'S AND ADULT'S LIVES AND THE PROPAGANDA THAT WAS ON THE WALLS DURING THE WAR WANTED CHANGE. IF I WAS THERE I WOULD UNDERSTAND BETTER OF THE WAR AND HOW IT WAS PLAYED OUT AND IT WAS JUST MORE THAN JUST GUNS AND BOMBS. ////////////////// IF I WAS IN THE WAR AND I WAS IN A CLASSROOM AND WE WERE LEARNING ABOUT DYSTOPIAN SOCIETIES I WOULD NOT CONNECT THE SOCIETY TO THE TIME THAT I WAS IN AND I WOULD THINK OF WW1 AND NOT WW2 BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO CALL IT DYSTOPIAN.

Now that I've learned more about the circumstances I see that whithout leadership things can become hectic and out of control, I see that if only one person has too much control it can lead to the end of a well kept society. If we do not have the proper form of leadership or help this can turn into unfortunate events, this can lead to people or groups being sepperated. It's very important for us to be able to agree on subjects and topics, if not this can lead to abandonment and other bad things.
