-It was considered to be the same as "classic" Autism (which itself was considered part of schizophrenia in children) until 1994, when it became classified as a separate disorder. 

-In 2013, it was folded back under Autism Spectrum Disorder, and is viewed as a sort of "cousin" to Autism.

-Aspergers is known and called both Aspergers and Asperger's. Today, the former is more widely used in medical journals and the latter more widely used informally. Aspergers can also be pronounced with a soft or hard "g" sound. 
-Aspergers is also not the same thing as Savant Syndrome. Though an aspie has a higher chance of having Savant Syndrome than a "normal" person, they are still a minority.
-Aspies are much more likely to be LGBT than neurotypical people. The reason is suspected to be related to rejection of social norms like gender roles.
