I will ask students what they already know, then what we want to know, and what we learned through the lesson. I will also give students a chance to come to the chart and fill in the designated area for each topic.
Example:
Teacher: Good morning class, today we will learn more about short and long vowels in one-syllable words. First Can anyone tell me what is a long vowel?
Student: A long vowel sounds like its name.
Teacher: Good job! can come write that in the "K" column.
(student writes their response in "K" column, I will commend the student on students response)
Teacher: Okay, can someone else tell me what is a short vowel?
Student: Short vowels do not sound like itself, you have to sound it out.
Teacher: That's a good! What does the short vowel /a/ sound like class?
Class: /a/ sounds like /ah/
Teacher: Good! Student, can you write that in the "K" column?
(Moves along to the "W' column what we want to learn, one-syllable word)
Teacher: Good. Now we want to know, what is a one-syllable word? Can anyone tell us what they think is a one-syllable word?
Student: One- syllable word mean it only has one syllable.
Teacher: Okay, and do one syllable words have vowels and if so how many vowels do you think it has class?
Class: ONE!
Teacher: Great! Can someone write that in the "W" column?
(student writes that one-syllable word has one syllable and a vowel, that's what we think)
