The author argues that from the perspective of psychology, the experience of unemployment can influence young people’s confidence and self-esteem and might cause psycho-social disorders. So he suggests that those with social financial support and social contact could help youth to cope with problems psychologically. 

It is totally understandable that young people who receive unemployment compensation benefits value their new jobs more after unemployment period because they use great endeavour to acquire this kind of financial support. In contrast, there will be less difficult for youth to receive supporting from parents, which might potentially provide opportunities to re-enter unemployment at any time. However, as what Furlong (2013) said in his book, parental support might also make a difference in helping youth shape confidence and self-esteem as well as avoiding certain degree of psycho-social disorders, which might eventually contribute to a longer job tenure.
