2. Can you think of a time when guilt clouded your conscience?
A couple years back, my family and I went to a reptile fair and my father decided to get a chameleon. I was against the idea at first, but once I was able to name him Gecko, I was on board. We had Gecko for a couple months until he started acting strange: he refused to eat and would not sleep on his plant that we bought for him. Instead, Gecko would hang on the side of his cage and sleep in odd positions. Finally, after a week of odd behavior, my mom, brother, and I found Gecko upside down... dead. He managed to hang himself and we were shook beyond belief! Following the event, my family and I threw Gecko away...

Guilt overcame me as I felt like a bad owner and did Gecko dirty. The end.

We can connect this story back to the rabid dog and his strange behavior. If he had not been acting strange in Scout’s neighborhood, Tim Johnson would have not died his sad death.

3. Can you think of a time when anger caused you to do something out of character?

Last year in biology class, we had a raisin-like substitute who would not let us “relieve ourselves.” We were watching this old movie that were forced to watch and were told we can’t go. Now listen, when you got to go... you got to go! Typically, Sydney and I listen to teachers because that’s what you’re supposed to do. However, Sydney just said, “Screw it.” She left and went. Me other hand, I’m goody two shoes. It took my half of the class to leave because I was both conflicted. But I left. She threatened to tell the teacher but we didn’t care we had to go. We sort of wanted to punch her but we didn’t so.

We feel as if, despite how exaggerated it was, it connects to TKAM where Jem and Scout, despite their anger, had to act like gentleman and keep their head high. They had handled it differently, showcasing maturity we failed to have.

Have you ever ever been blamed for something that you didn’t do?

This happened when I was in first grade. I had been coming out of lunch and was walking to my classroom. The rest of my classmates had made it back to class and I was the last one. As I was walking there was a line of kindergarteners walking behind me. Before going into my class I went to the water fountain to get a drink of water, then proceeded back to the class room. After walking in I shut the door and sat in my chair. I then heard a child screaming behind me. I ran to open the door and saw the kid he was crying and a teacher immediately came to see what the problem was. The child who was in pain explained that I “slammed his fingers” in the door. Even though I was sitting in my seat at the time of the incident. The child was playing around by the door and left his fingers in the crack when the door shuts I just didn’t realize it at the time.

To relate this to the book To Kill A Mockingbird Tom Robinson was falsely accused of beating and raping Mayella Ewell eventhough he was a honest witness and and Mayella since she was white she had the juries side on the final answer of wether or not Tom lived or not.

I was at the store with my mom and this man had the audacity to say some racist things about Mexicans. I was mad but I still stayed quiet instead of being like him. This connects with the book because when Mr.Cunningham said some things about Atticus and the person he was defending, Scout was told to stay quiet and respect him either way.

Have you ever had to deal with a rude adult and still have to respect them?
Yes, after getting off a cruise last year, I had my sunglasses on and waiting in line for the TSA people to check our passports and whatnot. This lady tells me rudely to take off my sunglasses because it’s disrespectful. I decided to keep them on because I didn’t like her attitude. So she’s says it again, I ignored, and she started babbling about how it’s disrespectful because I could be a terrorist. I hadn't a single cue as to what my parents considered wise spending, so ended up spending the money on a pickle and a temporary tattoo. When I got home they asked me for the extra change back and so i handed them a few coins. When they asked me what i bought i panicked and said I had onky bought a new pencul to study with. They wondered why i had only a few coins left and assumed they had taken advantage of an innocent child.
