What is a slab?

A slab refers to a part of the given amount. When used with if else it means different parts of a given amount are to be processed differently. For example if we want to calculate the library fine for a student who has not returned his book for 7 days at the rate of 5 Rs. per day then the fine will be simply 5*7 i.e. 35 but if his fine is charged 6 Rupees per day for the first 3 days and 5 rupees per day for the next 2 days then the total fine will be 6*3+5*2 i.e 28 rupees. The first example is charging fine at a flat rate of 5 Rs. whereas the second example is charging at a slab rate with 2 slabs of days - First slab at 6 Rs. per day and the second slab is at 5 Rs. per day.
