He was the illegitimate son of Don Jaime de Palafox y Mendoza (Marquis of Ariza) and a woman of illustrious family who, to hide his condition, retired to the spa of Fitero, in Navarra, and gave birth on June 24, 1600 , to avoid the scandal, he took the depraved resolution to drown the child in the nearby river. But the woman in charge of the infanticide was discovered and the boy was saved and raised by an old servant of the house of Ariza until his father, when returning from Rome, helped him and sent him to the Universities of Alcala and Salamanca. Her mother became a nun in the Order of the Discalced Carmelites
Later, when the war between Portugal and Spain broke out, he took advantage of the family relationship between the Viceroy Diego López de Pacheco Cabrera and Bobadilla, Duke of Escalona and Marquis of Villena, and the self-proclaimed King of Portugal, Juan IV, to question the fidelity of the Viceroy to his King in Madrid. After months of deliberation in Madrid, Palafox received in Puebla real secret cedulas that gave him the power to depose the Marquis of Escalona, and temporarily occupy the positions of Archbishop of Mexico and Viceroy of New Spain. Secretly, he entered Mexico City and contacted trusted members of the Audiencia and the Ayuntamiento, on the night of July 9, 1642, he ordered the Duke of Escalona arrested, who took refuge in the Convent of Churubusco.4 Having done the foregoing, he confiscated and finished off his property and remitted it to Spain.
