A training project in a net of six schools of Naples with students from 3 to 13 years old:

The ocean has a huge potential as space for exploration and meeting between the living beings, and as resource for medicals, economic, social and ecological activities.

This makes it urgent to rise the role of education and training as an instrument to "cure" the Ocean blindness. The Mediterranean is an "ancient" sea, a place of great biodiversity and a meeting point for different civilizations, and the Gulf of Naples is an ideal geographical location and "gateway" to the Mediterranean, where our activities find their pedagogical meaning and practical implementation.

Objectives:

-knowledge of geographical, historical, scientific and environmental aspects of Mediterranean Sea focused on the Gulf of Naples;

-dissemination of conscious "blue behaviour" for an engaged citizenship

Al via la seconda edizione della campagna “Chi Tene ‘O Mare: conoscere per proteggere”, l’iniziativa di sensibilizzazione alla tutela dell’ambiente marino-costiero promossa dall’Assessorato all’Istruzione e alle Famiglie, realizzata in collaborazione con l’Assessorato alle Infrastrutture e alla Protezione Civile e con Arpa Campania.

I nuovi spot, che forniscono informazioni e suggerimenti sui comportamenti sostenibili da adottare in spiaggia e in mare, sono stati presentati questa mattina nella Sala Giunta di Palazzo San Giacomo, nel corso di un incontro a cui hanno partecipato l’assessora all’Istruzione e alle Famiglie, Maura Striano, l’assessore alle Infrastrutture con delega al Mare, Edoardo Cosenza, la capo staff politico del Sindaco, Angela Cammarota, e il direttore generale di Arpa Campania, Stefano Sorvino. Con loro anche Vincenzo Comunale e Ciro Giustiniani, testimonial della campagna insieme a Marisa Laurito e a Franco Ricciardi, che già nella prima edizione ha prestato il proprio volto all’iniziativa.

Novità di quest’anno è il coinvolgimento delle alunne e degli alunni delle sette scuole di Napoli che hanno aderito alla rete Blue Schools, un’iniziativa dell’Unione Europea supportata dalla Commissione Oceanografica Intergovernativa dell’Unesco: gli istituti comprensivi “Ferdinando Russo”, “Falcone”, “Nicolini - Di Giacomo”, “Madonna Assunta”, “Quarati”, “Villa Fleurent” e “Moscati - D’Acquisto”. I ragazzi sono stati protagonisti di alcuni spot realizzati sulle spiagge cittadine. I video della campagna saranno diffusi attraverso i social media e i canali di comunicazione del Comune di Napoli e di Arpa Campania.

The project aims to explore the sea as a living space that connects people, environments, and cultures, using the concept of travel as a key to understanding natural and social phenomena in  the Mediterranean. Students are guided along a path of knowledge and responsibility that weaves together the routes of migrants, explorers  and contemporary paths  shaped by climate change. Within this framework, the migrations of marine animals are also examined, helping the students to understand the balance of the ecosystem and the threats caused by pollution and human activity. So the sea becomes both a real and symbolic place of biodiversity, encounter and hope.

The project also encourages reflection on the role of Mediterranean islands as cultural crossroads and on the main environmental challenges affecting marine ecosystems. It promotes awareness, responsibility and commitment to environmental protection, including the study of marine protected areas.

The proposed activities include an active and participatory learning  through scientific laboratories, field sampling and data analysis in order to develop observation, inquiry and critical thinking skills. They are complemented by readings of picture books, films and documentaries, meetings with environmental and education experts and outdoor learning experiences.

Creative and project-based approaches play a key role, focusing on a learning-by-doing methodology. Students produce artistic works, digital content, educational games on pollution and marine conservation and digital storytelling projects.

Collaboration between schools enriches the experience through the sharing of ideas and materials, supporting the development of a shared culture of ocean literacy, global citizenship and inclusive values.
