DSE is one of the major that I have decided to study in university. The reason to why I have decided to choose DSE as one of my major is because it peaked my interest. Data is used in everything we do everyday such as cooking for friends and family to making a rocket ship which all needs data. It is also one new and upcoming jobs that most jobs will need in the future, so studying and understand all of this later on can benefit me in the long run. When I first started DSE I find that some subjects are harder than other subject. For instance, studying physic here is quite different and harder compared to high school because all the knowledge I had before was in Khmer. Now that it is all in English my prior knowledge to this drop down to zero and I had to learn everything from square one again. Other subject such as Digital Literacy and Basic programming are on the easier side as I had some prior experience with using some coding language and using word, excel, and PowerPoint. Whiles studying here I found out that I need to be more talkative because most of the assignment and work are done in teams. I myself used to study in a new generation high school which have a different type of teaching approach compared to other high school, so I am used to this type of work. I also had some challenges that I had face during my studying semester one such as having to manage my time wisely and try to always be punctual. Some advice that I would like to give to students that have just finished high school and are planning to study DSE if you aren't fluent in the English language this course will be quite difficult. The other advice I can give to them is to be more extroverted and try to master presenting on stage as it is one thing that I and the others have to do often. Students who are suited for this major are students that are quite fluent in English as well as be fluent in using a computer. Student who want to study here should also be ready and willing to cooperate with other classmate to complete assignments and presentation. If a student is too shy or introverted then this subject isn't for them because in university it's less writing and more talking. In conclusion, for me I find the DSE is quite a thrilling and exciting roller coaster that there's more track to be build and more thrill to experience each day.

DSE: A Decision I Don’t Regret

I chose DSE because I like mathematics. At first, I didn’t know much about this major and planned to study pure math to become a teacher. Later, I explored more options and found data science, which is related to applied mathematics. That made me interested. After doing some research, I saw that this field is growing and could be very useful for Cambodia in the next few years. So, I decided to choose this major. In my first semester, the major was not as hard as I expected, but not very easy either. I think it is suitable for many students, even if they are not very strong or fast learners. For me, the most surprising part is that I started to feel that what I learn is actually useful. It made me more interested and motivated to continue studying this major. For me, there was nothing too difficult to adjust to. I am used to self-study and I can understand English, so I adapted quite easily. However, I think some students may find it harder, especially because this program is taught in English. Also, self-study is very important. If students only depend on lectures and do not study by themselves, it may be harder for them to keep up. My advice for high school students who want to choose this major is to build a basic foundation in mathematics and try to improve their English as much as possible. They do not need to be perfect students or very outstanding to join this program. This major is open and welcoming to all kinds of students. What matters most is having the courage to learn and being willing to improve. University is a place to learn, not a place where you must already be perfect. This major is suitable for students who are willing to learn and improve themselves, and it requires both basic hard and soft skills. For hard skills, students should have a basic foundation in mathematics and be able to understand simple English, since the program is taught in English. Some subjects, like programming, IDSE, may be new, but students can catch up with effort and practice. For soft skills, students should be able to communicate with others, ask for help when needed, and do self-study. Since university life requires self-learning, motivation and consistency are also important. Overall, this major fits students who are ready to learn, stay consistent, and grow step by step, even if they are not perfect at the beginning.

The major I never dreamt of, DSE

Growing up I never dreamt of becoming anything, I figured I would just do what am best at. But when I was choosing my major I thought to my self it won't hurt trying, So that's how I ended up here with you guy. The time I spent here is very chill I guess, Almost all the subject is very easy to study except math. Math and Coding class is the class that give me the hardest time these pass few month all the other subject like English and DL is very chill and you don't even need to study to pass there class. My advice to you guy are don't overthink too much just go with the flow it's not the end of the world if you fail this major better to be happy than stressing over it. Through my investigation I belive that this major really suit people like me, I have found many classmate that have the same interest as I do. These people that I think will fit in just fine with the DSE major is people that have an intrest in gaming mostly people that play gacha games, people that are good with tech like they love to upgrate there tech like laptop, pc and phone they know how to add stuff mod there stuff and fix there stuff, well that's my opinion I find it hard for people that don't have these intrest like me would enjoy this major as much as I did and well I feel like most of my classmate are like this. If your not like me it's ok it doesn't mean you won't like it here there many diffrent kind of people here as well but this is just the most common type of people I know in my class. Enjoy your uni years in DSE and most importantly have fun and make lots of memories here with your new friends.

DSE = Don't Sleep Easily

Whenever people ask why I chose this major, I usually say it’s because I want a high salary and good job opportunities. I also got a scholarship, the digital world is pushing me, and my senior recommended it. That’s true, but another soul of me also loves science, solving real world problems and that inspired me a lot, along with many genius women who motivate me. The first time I heard about DSE was from one of my favorite high school seniors. At first, I don’t really like to enter to the digital world. Honestly, tech was not on my list since high school because I hated coding, working with computers, staring all days, and I thought it’s for men things. But I changed my mind to try and against it. I know it’s still hard, but at least I try. Spending time to find who you are is never a waste. I thought: it’s better to start with a difficult major. Moving down to an easier one is simple, but moving up later is almost impossible.

After researching, I found DSE very interesting, especially working with data and connecting it to business. The combine between technologies fields and business fields feels futuristic and exciting. Plus, the hardest part for me is the language. English is not my first language, so technical words and academic reading are tough. Even subjects I used to love, like math and physics, became nightmares. Especially Physic feels like hell to me now, even though I used to enjoy it and some lesson I even study it in high school but because of the language gap took me down, I will try harder and wish it would go easy on me. Math was okay at first, but later it became confusing too. Some classes are fun, like Health and Wellness, and some teachers are supportive, but exams often leave me blank because I rely too much on step‑by‑step labs instead of building on my own way.

If I could go back in time, I would still choose this major because why not? I got the scholarship, and if not this, I wouldn’t know what to study. But one mistake I made is that I lacked motivation after graduating high school. I wasn’t prepared for university life. I wish I had studied basic computer skills like coding, Microsoft Office, and typing. Studying locally also made me less strict with myself, because the environment doesn’t push me as hard as abroad. I think changing students’ mindset and perspective is important. This major is good we can study locally and still work internationally. And last but not least is that I really enjoy classes, moments, and people here, we laugh so hard, with friendly professor, even they put a lot of assignment to make me tears down but I still love myself being here with fun chaotic.

My advice to high school students is: don’t be scared. If you are truly interested, spend time exploring. Be prepared for independence research, reports, writing, teamwork, and communication. Passion and ambition matter. If people walk, you should run or fly to catch up. And asking people who with experiences is very important: we can share something relatable and to save others, giving advices that would be nice and I wish to have that too before I am joining DSE or even now I’m a freshman here, talking with professor, student club or consultant are very recommended for consider it. DSE is suitable for those who like working with data, computers, and coding, and who can use English fair enough. 😉

Why DSE?

Data Science was a major that didn't crossed my mind when I was choosing what major to pursue for my future. But one day my parents showed me what majors was available, then DSE caught my eye because it was a major I have never heard of before so I decided to research more about this major. After a few days later I love what DSE was all about to naturally I picked DSE as my main major. As for the first semester, there are a few subjects that are way harder than what i have expected. Especially Math, I couldnt understand a single thing that the teacher was teaching, I was stressed and there were countless times that i wanted to quit but I kept pushing through. The challenging thing that I had to adjust to is that, I have to adjust to working on more work load, there were so many times that i have to pull an allnighter just to finish the word on time. Also one advice from me is that you should be more proficient with English before you start this course because this course rely heavily on English. And high schoolers that are good at English, able to adapt to anything and people who can sit staring at a computer screen for hours is very suitable for this course. There is one thing that i regretted after starting this course is that I was never able to learn Math more efficiently because Math is main subject in DSE so if yall can yall should learn more about calculus you'll need it. DSE is more challenging than i thought.

DSE is a major that i have made a decision to learn it in the university. It's just a little weird if I say that i never know this major before because one of my senior just recommended it to me that it's really good when I got lost and was still searching for what I should learn in the university. Afterwards, I start trying to do research more about this major and i found that it's really interesting and that's why I'm here today majoring in DSE. During the first semester of my journey in DSE, I realized that it's quite different from what I expected. Some parts like math and physics were harder than I thought. Some of the lessons were the same as high school but it's more challenging because I was familiar with the lesson in Khmer but all the lectures here were in English so it's just more difficult than high school. One challenge I had was managing my time as there are many assignments and deadlines close together and also had group projects at the same time but i feel more familiar with it now. One mistake, I made in my first semester is I didn't get enough revising before the exam so my score was not that good. I wish I could push myself more and that's not gonna happen in the next semester. My advice to high schools is to be prepared to learn independently especially what you love as well as be prepared your English. You don't need to be fluent to get into it, if you can listen, communicate, you're good to go. I think DSE is suitable for students who is curious , willing to work hard, and interested in technology. In conclusion, although DSE can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming, it is still a rewarding subject for those who are willing to put in the effort so be prepared if you are interested in it and don't be afraid to try, there's nothing easy.

DSE IS A CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE

I first knew about data science and engineering through my cousin. As I was researching more on this field, I became interested in how broad it is and how useful it could be in almost every domain. But what actually caught my eye the most was the high salary—if you're very skilled, you'll get high earnings. At first, I thought it would be mainly about coding, analyzing, and interpreting data, but I realized that it also involves lots of problem-solving and logic.

During the first semester, I seemed to not be able to develop self-studying habits after class. I tend to procrastinate a lot and often forget that I'm no longer a high school student. If I could go back, I would take a computer science course during high school or do a little bit of self-studying on coding.

For my fellow juniors, I would advise you to choose wisely, do deep research on the major you're interested in, and not follow trends. This major is very suitable for those who enjoy solving problems, learning new techniques, and thinking creatively and logically. It can be challenging but also very rewarding if you stay committed.

The reason I chose data science major is because I think it is a major that many people don’t study and it is different from other majors. My first year was very difficult for me. Speaking of easy things, there are not many. Almost every hour was difficult. After graduating, I felt very tired one day. The adaptation was learning English programming, and it was difficult for a weak person like me. The advice I want to give to high school students, if they are not good at English, don’t study at all. Those who are good at this major are good at math and English. If I could go back, I wouldn’t do it. I would study information technology in another field. Because every day, studying data science is really stressful for me. I just want to say goodbye to this profession, but it's really hard to change.
