I definitely think we need to hear from some older quilters. I'm thinking 70+. I'm having trouble coming up with names but I did think of Freddy Moran. Only problem is I think she is over 90 years young and not sure how active she is. Any of the older Gees Bend ladies would be good. We need to get the older folks stories on the record!

Danielle creates pure magic with thread. I had the good fortune to take one of Danielle’s in-person hand embroidery workshops and it was life-changing. She opened my eyes to seeing color in a new way, finding inspiration in everyday life, and also lovingly listening to our inner voice for creative choices. (“if you want to add more blue, then the answer is yes!! Add more blue!”) She has a refreshing sense of humor and is remarkably kind. Danielle is based in Capetown, South Africa and travels for workshops. She recently taught in Kuwait. Danielle would be a GREAT guest on SeamSide!!!

Oh my goodness, my heart started glowing when I imagined Mary Ann and China as guests on SeamSide. I attended their Gee’s Bend Quilting Retreat this year and it changed my life. They are not only masterful quilters, but are also bright shining lights in this world. Endlessly inspiring, on so many levels, and they embody resilience and unconditional love. I asked Mary Ann what she thought about my reflection that “hand quilting is a form of worship” for them and that they are like “quilting ministers”, and she said “oooh I like that! I’m going to write that down. I may name a quilt that someday.” They would be LEGENDARY guests on SeamSide and are very approachable. I’d be happy to make introduction too.

Matthew has been very public about a journey with addiction and gender issues, all while working publicly in the textile industry as a model and then as a content producer. I think their reflections on the journey, as well as how the community has received their public shift to a non-binary identity would make for an interesting conversation.
