I think Ian Cole chose to have an affair with Abby Labar because he believed it would not get out. He is an NHL player with a lot of money so he believed an affair with the new, young reporter would be a good idea and that he would not be caught.

Ian Cole's appearance was not immediately tainted by this incident because it was in the midst of the trade deadline and new deals were popping up like wildfire. He was right in the middle of a lot of NHL news so many people did not view him differently because they did not know what happened.

Ian Cole is not viewed in a positive manner currently. His affair with Abby Labar has been pushed under the rug as new dirt has been dug up on the NHLer. He was accused anonymously on twitter of SA crimes against a minor as he entered the NHL. All allegations have been denied but he has been suspended by the Lightning and is awaiting investigation. He is now viewed as a disgusting person

I think that Ian Cole's punish was fair. He did not do anything to taint his career and all the backlash would be put on the Hurricanes, as it is their reporter and their player. Him being traded and Abby Labar being fired is the most the organization can do. It is an adequate punishment because he has already been destroyed enough as his personal life fell apart.

If an athlete displays unethical behavior on the field, does that mean they are more likely to display unethical behavior off the field as well?

I disagree with this statement. In Ian Cole's case he was a clean player but unethical of the ice. Another example is Brad Marchand, he is a dirty player and he is know for some unethical things on the ice but he is very kind and generous off the ice.
