Some workers may have solid foundations that can be easily built upon, whilst others require more support and work to build a stronger foundation to support their building. This is synonymous to students arriving at university with different socioeconomic status, educational background, cultural differences, and individual life experiences.

On the building site I provide the workers with the tools and instruction manuals they need to support them to build the building they desire. Some workers will dream of building skyscrapers that stand out in the city, whilst others prefer to make buildings that serve a specific purpose etc., representing the variety of aspirations that students have and their own reasons for studying for their degree.

Occasionally some buildings may take longer to construct and so it is the responsibility of us all on the building site to share our tools and instruction manuals so that the city can be built together. Just as it is important for all staff and students to support each other and work collaboratively to reach their end goals.

When the city is built, my construction workers will go on to help build other cities, passing on their experiences, tools and instructions. At the next building site I work on, I will use my own experiences of working with the construction team, seeing their foundations and constructing their buildings to build a new, thriving and stronger city. Just as students will take the knowledge and learning from their time at University to shape whatever they go on to do afterwards, I will learn from the things that went well and not so well to improve the learning experience for the next cohort of students.
