The crusades were a battle of religions between the Christians and the Muslims because the Muslims kicked the Christians from "the holy land", so they battled for the land and believed they should be the same religion.

People went on crusades to get into heaven because the pope tricked people and made them believe that if they went on crusades they would  get a free pass into heaven (Most people went for a free pass to heaven).
Other people went on crusades for the money , fame and the scavenge they get from there.
