Oh, but What if You Fly
This activity is perfect for collaboration and making every student feel like they were apart of a master piece! The idea is to have each student write down their hopes and dream on the feather and then design it to their own desire. Then the students (with possibly assistance of the teacher) assimilate it on the wall in the shape of wings so every time the students pass it they remember their own and each others hopes and dreams. If you really wanted to you could follow up with a lesson about birds and the different types of birds. You could discuss where they live and the differences in how far they fly, or if they fly at all. You could also have student pick their favorite bird and have them create that bird through supplies that you provide.

Source:
http://beeinthebookends.blogspot.com/2017_02_01_archive.html

Catapults for Kids
Challenging a student to come up with new ways to do something usually isn't that hard considering kids always want to do it their way anyway. An activity like this allows for open ended results. The students are encouraged to think outside the box and construct a catapult that they believe with shoot the furthest based off of what they know or experience through out the process. Provide the students with set materials and watch their critical thinking skills unravel. Have the students measure how far theirs shoots and the amount of distance between the furthest and the shortest distance. There are many learning opportunities to explore and take from an activity like this.

Source:
http://livingwellmom.com/2015/05/catapult-for-kids/
