It is clear that police officers in certain areas have bias and racial views toward African American people. Specifically, in Ferguson where police officers have extreme levels of racial views toward African-American people as opposed to the light skinned individuals living within that area. Not only do they have these racial views, but they also act on their thoughts. Police use the media to justify their actions, by releasing videos to the public that distract the community from their actions, and focus on the harmful actions on the community. Racism is practiced through out the whole police force in Ferguson, as there are only 5 African American police officers employed. This low number of African American police officers has not made a difference within their society, regarding how these people are treated, if anything, it has made it worse as there is not a high number of African American police officers employed, which shoes the level of prejudice against this race.

Police officers not only verbally abuse their patrons but also physically. They also make direct attempts at scaring off the community by pointing their weapons at people, even though they are only supposed to when they are ready to pull the trigger. The militarisation of police officers and their equipment and weapons, allows for police officers to use their weapons unnecessarily, which creates tension and a negative perspective of police officers. This is show in the 1400% increase of SWAT teams since the 80's, where most of these invasions were due to drug invasion. African American individuals are highly targeted and arrested, even when they have no reasonable grounds for suspicion. There was a sergeant arrested in Ferguson, as he directed his police officers to "have a black day" and arrest black people who were shopping in a shopping centre.

Over the past 40 years, it is clear to see the discrimanation, tension and hatred felt between both Ferguson Police officers and the African American community. There has been many cases that has raised questions within the community and across their nation about the treatment police officers are giving to the African American people. This is exemplified in John Belmers case where he had shot a 16 year old boy more than a few times, despite him being innocent. What angered the community even more was the police officers response, "it was only more than just a couple, but many more than that" which shows the lack of remorse or care towards his actions. Police officers had also released irrelevant videos in hopes to distract the community however ultimately only spiked more anger and hatred between both parties.

To recognise the bias between police officers and the community would come into play when the amount of African Americans within this police force has been addressed. Only 5 African American police officers work with Ferguson police, which is mainly ruled by Caucasian officers. Patrick Haynes, a Sargent, had ordered police officers to arrest African American people which clearly demonstrates the discrimination and bias felt between these parties. This is very disturbing, it is also clear to see that people of ferguson need effective police officers who they can trust when in need of them, rather having the opposite effect. 4.3 million dollars worth of armour had been distributed by the military to police officers, not only was that uncalled for but it was noted how police officers in Ferguson had been pointing their weapons at civilians despite them not being allowed to unless there was a clear threat and a trigger had to be pulled. Number of swat teams have increased by 1400% since 1980's and have only been used for drug invasions. African Americans have been treated so carelessly to the point of dehumanisation, they are called animals.

The videos viewed within todays tutorial made it exceedingly evident that, various officers and police departments within certain districts more specifically (Ferguson) uphold prejudice and racial standpoints towards their African American counterparts. Which is supported by the innumerable cases that have arisen before the unnecessary killing of the young African American boy Michael Brown.

Moreover, the statistics discussed within the video and made apparent online state that, in a town in which is 67% African American, only 5.6% of the African American population make up the police force in Ferguson, which is quite self explanatory foreseeing 86% of police stoppages are individuals of an African American descent. In saying that the diversity of officers who makeup a police force is not the holy grail or answer to all things, however the exercising of the correct use of police powers seems to be quite prevalent to a lot of America's issues.

No matter what uniform one clothes himself or herself with, underneath it all is an individuals own; values, morals, ethics, viewpoints and opinions.

One man from the viewed video states that they terrorise the community , reporting that they verbally and physically abuse them without reasonable cause. Another man was shot by police even though he was not posing a threat to the community and also was unarmed . It is evident that police are abusing police powers and as a result are damaging the potential of a positive police to citizen relationship.

Police officers need to start being held accountable for their actions instead of being granted immunity

Through the viewing of two videos shown, it demonstrated the unlawful act from the police officers breaching the human rights, legitimacy, rule of law and the society safe and security.

In the first video, it shows a great highlight of the ineffective law enforcement actions towards the community. Proven though the mentioned of ''police handled terribly'' by television host. Thus, an example provided by this video was a case of an police officer shooting an unarmed teenager. Additionally, the law enforcement have been conveyed in a negative factor due the evidence shown in the video. This is proven by the unlawful act of the police officer shooting ''more than a couple of time'' on an unarmed teenager.

Hence, through this video, it clearly justify that the human rights of the community are breached due to the fact of discrimination towards ''black people''. Furthermore, the video have displayed an evidence provided by the community that the ''police beaten us physically and verbally'', heighten the fact the law enforcement have breached the safety and security of human rights for the community. Moreover, police have discretion to control the community, such as the using the SWAT team in unnecessary occasions.

In addition, the second video shows the disconnection of the community and the defence force.

Being a person of colour (POC) in Ferguson, especially if you are African American, means that you are over two times more likely to be stopped by police for a search. Despite being 67% of the population, African Americans account for 93% of arrests. Through these statistics, there is a clear indication of racial profiling within the Ferguson Police Department (FPD). Racial bias is seen all over the criminal justice system, not just by police but also within other law enforcement. African Americans are 68% less likely to have their case dismissed. The Ferguson police department lacked in community policing, as there was major increases in African American searches and arrests. Another factor which may contribute to racial profiling is the diversity within the FPD, only less than 10% of the Ferguson Police Department were African American.

In the death of Michael brown, it is evident that police tactics of the FPD were ineffective. An black man was shot twice, despite being unarmed. Media coverage on the shooting after the fact, including videos of Mr Brown stealing which was irrelevant to the shooting, suggesting the the FPD is creating a distraction. This excessive force is unacceptable which creates a major discrepancy for those who trust the legitimacy, accountability and safeguarding of police and those who do not have a good relationship between police.

The video illustrated that the town Ferguson were having issues with their local police due to the lack of inequality with in the state. This issue began as teenager who was African- American and was unarmed was shot and killed by police. This created an uproar with in the community as the citizens of Ferguson believe that the shooting was unnecessary and racial related. Furthermore, due to the riots occurring within Ferguson, police have militarised the riots by arriving in vehicles that would normally be seen within the army and also wearing uniforms and weapons that would normally be seen worn by the military.

Furthermore, another concern that appears within the town of Ferguson is that police are using govt. funds to purchase new and unnecessary equipment, an example of this is the Ferguson police station purchased swat and military equipment to help the police in situations like riots with African-Americans. Further, another alarming statistic shows that an Increase of 1400% of police equipment is being used in warrants for drug searches.

Also a lack if of inequality is shown within the police force as according to numbers by the Governor of Ferguson, there were only 3-6 African American police, 1 hispanic other than that all the other police officers are White American.

This results to distrust between the community and its law enforcement.

The video shows police officers in Ferguson have racial views towards African Americans. Showing that the police force has little sense about the community of Ferguson. Specifically the comparison, as African Americans are more likely to be arrested due to racial discrimination compared to those of fair skin. Moreover, with a disconnection between a diversified police force it therefore displays a cultural disconnection. often with the Ferguson police officers targeting minority groups. When interviewed, an individual of African American decent said if they are not beating us physically it is verbally.

Additionally, the over militarization of weapons and the increased use of SWAT teams. This is shown with 79% of SWAT deployments used to execute search warrants. decreasing the communities relationship between police. Specifically, police wondering the streets with there weapons drawn when civilians hold not threat to the community or police. More over, the police department of Ferguson fail to view the African American community as individuals.

The incident with Ferguson was bound to happen when you look at the setting of the Ferguson police and their connection with the community, being that the police fore was I trusted by the community. The police of Ferguson were far to over powered in their use of military grade "toys", uniforms and weapons. This tention between the community and the police force was what made the shooting of an unarmed African American teenager, named Michael Brown, become national news. Withe the delayed statement from the police naming the officer that had shot the teenager and the unclear description of what had occurred left the community in up roar which started the riots.

A number of experts in this field have made suggestions of tactics that could help to stop the issues in Ferguson. Some of these tactics include the increase of African American officers in the police force to that it would better match the communitiespercentages. Another tactic was to show more transporting between the police force and the community to help build trust between the two. The final suggestion was to de militarise the police of Ferguson so that if or when another event like the shooting of Michael Brown happens again the police are not over powered.

The racial makeup is not reflected in the town's institutional. Ferguson's Mayor is white. Most importantly, its police force is overwhelmingly officers. Out of the 53 commissioned officers in the Ferguson police department, only three are black . therefore, there is also evidence that the Ferguson police department disproportionately stops and arrests black residents.

Leading up to the events of Ferguson the community and police department faced several issues. The issues firstly revolved around the community policing, as the police force was not diverse. The Ferguson community is 2/3 African American, despite this, the force only had 5 African American officers out of 53.
This creates a cultural barrier. Among this issue is the Mayor's view that the community gets along and there are no issues. However, this was proven incorrect, an epitome of this is a County police officer stating to
another officer "lets have a black day, the jail cells need more colour". This statement is commanding and encouraging racial profiling.
During the event of Ferguson, the police failed to maintain accountability and follow protocol. As several military armed officers held a teenager at gun point, despite the fact that the teenager was not armed or appearing to be a danger to society. Due to the outrage this caused with the
community, the police released a video of which was used as a distraction method and as an excuse to enforce a kill shot on the teenager.
The police tactics used during the events have shown to be ineffective, the military does not use this level of force. Statistics have shown that there has been a 1400% increase in SWAT equipment, despite having no use. There was also $4.3 billion in military equipment provided to the local police forces. In contrast the military itself does not use this level of equipment or force. Being in the hands of local departments encourages
police brutality, lack of community trust, lack of legitimacy, lack of safety
and also further lack of accountability.
The events prior and during the Ferguson issue are unacceptable.

As we have been shown through both videos, there are certain issues that have been mentioned, such as; police tactics, community policing and recruitment. Through these issues, it has created a tensions between the community and police, due to their lack of legitimacy and broke down relationship.

The use of policing tactics within Ferguson, have shown to be 'over the top', as mentioned through both videos, the excessive use of military equipment has shown signs of unnecessary use of force, and practice towards the community to be unjust. This can be shown through the local Police Force website, where the use of a military grade tanks while training. Another example can be shown through a photo within one of the videos, where the amount of police officers who were in military grade uniform was excessive, while all pointing a gun at the victim, although she was unarmed and caused no threat, but only because of her skin colour.

As shown through both videos, there is a lack of community policing within Ferguson, which is depicted by the contrasting view of the both the community and the mayor of the community, on the issues, such as racial tension and recent incidents that have occurred. Another aspect within community policing, can be shown through the Police Force, where they lack community engagement and an abscent in relationships with the community. As their main focus is to detain and arrest people who pose a threat towards them, but not to the community. This can be depicted through the shooting of an unarmed teenager who posed no threat to the community, but only to them as they were coloured (black). Thus the lack of community policing is evident throughout the community of Ferguson.

The process of recruitment within Ferguson, is shown to be predominantly white Caucasian males, showing that there is a lack of diversity within the Police Force, although more the 2/3 of the community are of African American descent. Creating a disconnection between their cultures and not being able to relate or effectively implement practices that are beneficial towards the community, due t their lack of knowledge towards their cultural backgrounds.

Within the Ferguson jurisdiction, several video sources have explicitly detailed how the extensively strained relationship shared between the community and the police force has lead to a multitude of expanding conflicts within that society. At the pinnacle of this strained relationship is an event where an unarmed, African-American teenage boy was shot dead by police after a confrontation between the two parties. According to the Legal Information Website (1992), a police officer may use deadly force in order to apprehend a suspect who is deemed to have ill-intentions, such as provide harm to himself or others, which aligns up to several police statements initially spoken during the investigation, many eye-witnesses claim that the boy had not displayed any form of threats, thus, the community had speculated that the victim was shot solely for his ethnicity. This had ultimately lead to a massive investigation being held over the Fergus police force as well as all united states police forces in regards to police brutality, over-use of force and overall diversity within their ranks, which is highlighted when a police officer states that there are approximately five ethnic individuals within the Ferguson police force.
After the shooting, the community began questioning both the legitimacy and accountability of their police force as a result of said police force not releasing important information about the shooting, primarily the name of the officer who fired the six shots (BBC News, 2014). After several confrontations and investigations, it was revealed that of all arrests within this jurisdiction, 86% of these arrests where primarily African American males, which highlights the negative tactics of racial profiling being used by this force, with a recently fired captain stating ‘lets make this a black day’ (Gander, 2015). In conclusion, it is evident that the community and the police share a significantly strained relationship, which is highlighted in the fact that there are zero diversity and a form of racism established within the police force, which has impacted the integrity of the Ferguson police force. In order to establish a positive relationship, the Ferguson police force should reestablish their norms and values to a satisfactory one in modern-day context, as well as provide a community with a respectful and positive voice, not an unacknowledged one.
