In addition to helping make choice boards less overwhelming, rolling out new choices one by one allows you to spend time teaching students about the different options. For example, in the Progressive Choice Board below, which is introducing different types of resources, you would start by practicing how to extract key ideas from an article, and then when students were ready to move on, you could introduce an "image notice & wonder" activity separately.

💡 You might be concerned that too many students will choose the “simplest” option, which very well might happen. In that case, you might want to consider the options you are offering. Are the challenging and advanced choices compelling enough for a student to want to take on a new challenge?
