Without a soul are we even human?

In Unwind, the laws state that unwinding is moral because life is preserved, and the child is not actually dead because their parts are still living. This argument is seriously invalid because the child loses their soul in the process. Father Ray Ryland states that the soul in scripture is often used "to denote a human life, or the totality of a human person." If this is true then no unwind is still truly living because of their loss of soul. Connor also explored this argument in Unwind. When shoved in a crate with three other boys heading to an unknown destination, the boys discuss where they believe the soul goes when a person is unwound: "'How should I know what happens to it? Maybe it gets all broken up like the rest of us.' 'But a soul isn't like that,' says Diego. 'It's indivisible.'" Even the boys are unsure where a person's soul goes when they are unwound.

In present times, the pro-life vs pro-choice debate is one of the mot controversial and most talked about disputes. This debate ultimately boils down to two main questions: whether or not a woman has the right to decide if her baby lives or dies, and if the child in the womb has its own right to life. Unwind tackles this issue by setting up a dystopian society where parents control if their children have a right to live. These children, much like the unborn, are not granted the unalienable right to life that they deserve and have no say in the matter.
