         <description><![CDATA[<div>The 82nd was nicknamed "All American" because it was one of the only divisions in the United States at the time to have one person from all of the 48 states. The 82nd also included many immigrants, many didn't speak English in their divisions. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>82nd airborne was reactivated after WWI on the 25th of March 1942, under the Major General Omar N, Bradley. Command soon was switched to Mathew Ridgeway. Once Ridgeway was in command he planned and executed the first major air strike assault in U.S history with an attack of Sicily in 1943. (operation Husky)Later he parachuted his troops into Normandy during the D-day invasion in June of 1944. Ridgeway lead the 82nd's action in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. He was Known especially for rallying dispirited troops. Ridgeway's ability to inspire his troops allowed the 82nd airborne to be successful. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On October 8th 1945 the 82nd airborne was the first non-dutch unit to be awarded with the Militaire Willems Orde, Degree of Knight of the Fourth Class.This award entitles all members of the Division who fought in Holland. This it's significant that the 82nd Airborne received this award because no other American unit had ever been awarded with this award. Individually, 19-year old Private John R. Towle was awarded the 82nd Airborne Division's second Medal Of Honor of World War II. After the success of market garden. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When activated by Maj. Gen. Omar N. Bradley at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, on 25 March 1942, the 82nd Airborne Division was designated an airborne formation on the 15th of August and began jump training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in October. The Commanding general was Mathew B. Ridgeway, who would remain in command for two years. On July 9th the 82nd went to Sicily and the 82nd jumped and shuttled around the Mediterranean theater until moving to northern Ireland around Christmas time. D-day training was conducted in England from February leading up to D-day. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

However, the 82nd Airborne's job is relatively the same, its purpose is to respond to crisis anywhere in the world within 18 hours.
