He was born in 1952 in Lvov, Ukraine to Sarah and Avrom Goldberg.

Unfortunately, his father passed away suddenly only a week after he was born.

She was born on March 13, 1955 in Petach Tikvah, Israel.

Her parents were Fajwel and Tauba Barac who moved to Israel after living through the Holocost in Poland and Russia.

She started school at 2 as she was always following her sister around, who at the time, was 5.

There were many wars in Israel throughout the 10 years that she lived there. Her father served in the army.

Her mother's father, her grandfather, had gone to Canada after the Holocaust and was worried about her family's safety and wanted them to join him in Canada.

In 1958, she was 3 and her family immigrated to Canada.

When she arrived she was only able to speak Hebrew but quickly picked up English.

She loved learning and eventually became a teacher. She designed the Guidance Department and a high school.

In 2013 she retired from that position and now is a psychotherapist in private practice.

and was forced to retire early. After she retired she moved to Poland with my dad so he could work on his PH.D in computer science. My dad sponsored her to move to Canada in 1999. She then helped my dad to build a new life in Canada. Olga had a very strong character, she was very wise and she loved my father very much. I was named after her father Isaac. She was with us until I was 3 and then unfortunately passed. 

My Zaidy was born on October eighth in Toronto. He has lived here his whole life. When he was in high school he met my Bubie Karen but they didn't start dating or get married until after they graduated. He worked in the egg business and owned an egg factory.

He was born in Toronto on May 17, 1951.

He graduated a University of fine arts as a camera man for film industry. He then worked as a manager in photo finishing industry. Later he also owned a business in the beaches for a number of years.

She was born in Toronto on Oct 9, 1954.

She was a pharmacist and worked in pharmacy research and ran two internationally based consortiums financed by the European Union. She also worked in the United States for over 15 years.

• Jakob was born on July 11th or 14th 1912 in Travnik to the old Jewish Gaon family.

• He had 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

• He went to high school at the Travincia Jesuit High School in Travnik.

• He was great with languages and he knew Latin and Ladino fluently.

• After his high school, he went to study medicine in Belgrade, Serbia.

• In 1941, he was recruited to the army of Yugoslavia to fight in the April War (a war in which the Nazis won); he was captured and deported to Germany but his father,  brothers and sisters were killed in the war.

• He worked at the Ravensbruck Camp, north of Berlin during the war. While he was at the camp, he took care of the prisoners with his medical background.

• There was a lady who helped him named Marta and when the war ended in 1945, he married her and started a life together. He also received an award from the Soviet Union for what he did in the camp.

• All of the diseases he encountered in the camp motivated him to study epidemiology in Sarajevo, Belgrade, the U.S, Switzerland, and Germany.

• He got a job as a lecturer in the department of epidemiology in Sarajevo and eventually, he became a world famous epidemiologist.

• One of his accomplishments was that he was the first person in the world to discover the recurrence of freckles.

• In 1972. There was a smallpox disease in Yugoslavia spreading quickly. He was appointed head of the organization to combat this. He first had to determine the disease and then he came up with a vaccination that went to 84% of the population. Thanks to him, the disease did not spread to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

• In 1993, a war in Bosnia broke out. He escaped to Zagreb, Croatia, living with his wife. In 1995, he died and was buried at a cemetery in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Her official Portuguese name is Rosa Maria Santos dos Reis, but she goes by Rose

She was born December 03, 1960 in the city of Angra do Herosimo, on the island of Terceria in the country of Portugal.

She and her parents emigrated to Canada in 1964, landing at Mirabelle Airport in the province of Quebec on June 24, 1964.  She was 3 years old when we arrived. 

Rose and her family then travelled to Toronto and started their new life there. Her dad, Oldemiro or Olie to his friends, had a job waiting for him at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft and her mom, Leonila or Lily,  was a stay at home housewife.  

Rose has lived in Toronto for the last 60 years and she loves this city.  In order to maintain her cultural identity, my parents always spoke Portuguese at home.

She earned a degree majoring in Economics and Political Science. Her plan was to be a member of the Diplomatic Corp, however she ended up in advertising and marketing. She has just retired from my marketing and sales consultancy business. 

She is currently on the Board of the Forest Hill Figure Skating Club, and was the President in the past and current Treasurer. She is also on the Board of the North Toronto Tennis Club as a Director.  

Rose is currently working on a pilot skating program for kids with Special Needs. Forest Hill Figure Skating is targeting to launch it September 2025.

Zaida Hymie

Born in Lithuania in a small town Kurshan in 1912

Emigrated at age 23 to Johannesburg South Africa where he worked as a barber and was able to bring two of his siblings out of Europe to South Africa before the war started , there were 5 siblings in the family.

His parents and the rest of the family died in the holocaust.

He had his Barbar shop for 60 Years. He taught is Son Solly how to cut hair and solly went on to be the hairdresser for kids at school when they came with long hair, the principal sent the kids to solly during the day for a haircut.

Bobba Aida

Born in Lithuania in a town called Kovna, she was one of 6 children,

She came on the train in 1936 from Lithuania,  to Germany to catch the boat ot a Baltic port and then through to the UK and from UK another ship to South Africa.

She was a seamstress in Johannesburg, her mother had a bakery in Lithuania. My mom remembers the delicious Ashkanazi treats My great Bobba always baked which she had learned from her mother.

My Bobba's brother was married with 5 Children and when the war started, he managed to get a military vehicle and put the whole family on the vehicle to escape the Germans.

When the truck reached the outskirts of the town the wife remembered she left her baby behind and insisted the husband go back to get the baby and when he returned to the prearranged meeting point the family was not to be found, after the war he heard the driver had taken the whole truck load of people to the Militray camp where they were shot and thrown into elongated ditches.

Solly Wainberg

Born Johannesburg south Africa – 18 September 1945

Moved to Toronto Canada 15 years ago

Graduated from  King David Linksfield High school, went on to Study Dentistry at the University of the Witwatersrand graduated in 1969. He served in the South African army.

Worked for 2 years in London UK in dentistry

Returned to Johannesburg to open a dental practice and worked until left for Canada

Biggest accomplishment is he looked after his parents until they were 94 years old they were both from Europe and fled before the war started in Europe

Connection to Johannesburg South Africa is its where his parents moved to its where he married a South African and had three daughters one of them being my mother

Sadly no family members are left in south Africa to crime and everyone wanting a better life

He fought in the Second World War. After the war, he moved to South Africa. While there, he ran a furniture store. He was a passionate Zionist, so he and his family made Aliyah to Israel. Accomplishment: He was the president of his shul. One big challenge in his life was World War II (as was it for many other Jews). The war paused his personal life and he married late (at age 40) to his wife, Zelma (who was 25 at the time: 15-year difference). They had four children, (three daughters, and one son: Avril (Avi), Alan (Bush/my grandfather), Nolene, and Jocelyn (Jocy).

After Paweey Jack passed, my family donated a clubhouse for the Air Force on his behalf. He died on September 25. His Yarzheit is on ה' בתישרי, in between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. He passed away on his 90th birthday, which in Judaism, צדיקים (for example, Moshe) pass away on their birthday, which is a sign of special and holiness and perfection in life.

My grandmother Anna Rabinovitch (Adasiewicz) was born in Poland on Jan. 28, 1948. She left Poland to go to Israel, and then Montreal, Canada.

My great grandfather Matthew Verbeeten was born on April 28, 1919 in Cimahi, Bandung, Indonesia when it was a Dutch colony. His family returned to the Netherlands in late 1932 when one of his sisters got Tuberculosis which is a disease common in the lungs. Not a few years after returning to the Netherlands, Matthew's father got pneumonia and died.  Now he had lost his sister and father in just a small period of time. Later on Matthew studied very hard to become an engineer.

When the Holocaust came to an end, Matthew met his wife Ruth Rotenberg .  Soon Ruth and Matthew had my Grandpa who was born on May 10, 1948 in Utrecht, Netherlands. In 1950, when my Grandpa was only 2 years old they moved as a family to Indonesia because Matthew could speak the native language and was able to find good work. In 1951, my grandpa's sister Yvonne was born in Bandung, Indonesia. Only after the Civil War started in Indonesia, they moved back to the Netherlands in 1957 for a short while. Sooner then later they moved to Canada the following year.  My great grandfather worked as an engineer for his love and compassion in building things. As well as spending time with his five grandchildren. On September 7, 2008 he died in Toronto, Canada.

In 1957, they moved back to the Netherlands because there was a civil war and they were targeting the Dutch people in Indonesia. In 1958, they moved to Canada and their boat docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 26, 1958. Today my

grandpa loves playing and watching basketball.  His favourite player is Larry Bird, he works as a Radiologist.

My grandfather also loves gardening and reading about history.

She is my maternal grandmother. She was born on June 24 in Chicago. She has 3 children,4 sisters and 1 brother. She has a degree in education and she has worked as a teacher, a waitress and at TWA airlines.

My Zaidy Chaim was born in Winnipeg on February 29, 1936. He is eighty years old but since he was born on February 29th, he has only had 22 birthdays. He lived in a few other places such as Deep River, Ontario and Ottawa up until a few years ago. He has two kids, my dad and my aunt. Now he is a DNA scientist and loves to talk about science.

He ended up preparing small Comander boats that used to be launched from airplanes into the ocean and eventually, he made them that his son used (my dad). He later moved to work as a printer in a famous Israeli newspaper called Maariv. He worked there for 45 years. At the end of his career. He witnessed the transition from offset printing to digital printing of the newspaper. He met his wife at the age of 19 and married at 21. He has been working since the day they married for 45 years in the same place. He loved Libian food (his wife's food). His wife was a very good chef. He was an amazing and hard-working man who worked countless hours to support his family.

Norbert my grandfather was born in 1939 and is from Casablanca and when he was a child he was very independent he came from a very poor family and shared a room with his 4 brothers. His parents are named Messody Abecassis and Mosie Abecassis. As a kid he loved playing hide and seek with his friends because they did not have a TV. As a kid he loved couscous with grilled meat. He was a hairdresser in Morocco and he left Morocco in 1960 because of antisemitism and lack of employment and went to Canada and he became a clothing importer and then he worked in Jewelry. Now he loves to play cards with his friends and walk my uncle's dog. He has four kids and he just turned 85 in September.

Aarons childeren were Harry, Ida, Max, Molly, Bernice, Sonia, and Lily. Luckily I had the chance to meet Lily right before she passed.

Aaron was a carpenter, he built furniture and beds to make a living. Him and his family endured many pogroms. He knew he had to leave Poland, in 1934 his family left for Halifax. They took a train from Poland to  Coppenhagen, Denmark and a ship from Coppenhagen to Halifax, then a train from Halifax to Montreal

His extended family stayed in Poland and were all murdered in the holocaust. He immigrated to Montreal but sadly died young at the age of 52 in 1938.

When him and his immediate family moved to montreal, they changed there name from Rochwerg, to Rothman. They choose to do this because That name sounded more english to them and they liked it that way.

My maternal grandfather, Hyman Rabinovitch, was born in Montreal, QC on Sept. 29, 1944. His parents had moved to Montreal from Belaruse.

My paternal grandparents were both born in Santiago, Chile. My grandfather Abraham Peliowski was born on Feb. 27, 1948 and my grandmother Regina ("Nicky") Buchuk was born June 29, 1949. They moved to Canada less than a year after my father was born.

My Zaida Ed was born in Winnipeg on May 16th, 1944. He is 80 years old and still lives in Winnipeg. He worked at Melet Plastics, a Winnipeg plastics company. He has four kids, my dad, two uncles, and aunt.

My Bubbie Anne was born on August 17, 1948, in Brooklyn. She moved to Toronto in 1969. She worked as an investigator at the Ontario Ombudsman Office and retired in 2017. She has one child, my mom.

She qualified as a shorthand secretary and worked for a number of accountancy firms until her marriage in 1969 to Sandy Rabinowitz. She had 2 daughters named Leanne and Vanessa. The family moved to Toronto in 1978.

Papa went to school in Johannesburg and was a member of Bnei Akiva. He qualified as a teacher and taught at two Jewish Day Schools (King David and Hillel in Benoni) He was principal at Hillel when we emigrated to Toronto on 1978. He became General Studies principal at Associated in 1982.

Granny Irma was born in Cape Town in 1937.

Her mother Pauline was born in South Africa and her father jack was born in Lithuania and they met in cape town South Africa.

Granny moved to Johannesburg when she married my grandpa Jack Shapiro.later in the years they got married in 1928. Irma had 3 boys Rowan, Kevin and Hilton. Irma opened a furniture store when my dad was young and had it until they left South Africa in 1990 and moved to Toronto. She opened another furniture store when she came to Canada and its still going to this day.

my grandpa Jack was born in 1936 in a small town outside of Johannesburg called Potchefstroom. Jacks parents are Louis and Sarah.They were were both from Lithuania.

Because there were very few Jews in the town of Potchefstroom, my grandpa went to an afrikaans boarding school until he finished high school and then moved to Johannesburg.

He married my granny Irma and had 3 kids Rowan, Kevin and Hilton who were all born in South Africa

Jack took over his fathers hardware store and ran it until they moved to Canada.

Bubbie Hilda is my great-grandmother and is my Bubbie Susan's mother.

Between 1942- to 1945, Bubbie Hilda and my Zaddy Peter hid in the forests that bordered Czechoslovakia and Hungry. They were trying to flee Hungry because Hungry was not occupied by the Nazis just yet. Eventually they took a boat to Canada. 

Zaddy Peter is my great-grandfather and is my Bubbie Susan's father.

Zaddy Peter and Bubbie Hilda survived in the forest during WWII. Even though the conditions were terrible, the silver lining is that they fell in love with each other. Eventually they moved to Canada with their son, my great-uncle Paul, and had my Bubbie Susan shortly after they arrived in Canada.

Zaddy Sam is my great-great-grandfather and is Nana Marci’s grandfather.

Both of my Nana's parents were born in Canada. Zaddy Sam was married to Bubbie Jenny. They are the parents of my great-grandfather, Zaddy Earl. Bubbie Jenny’s parents were killed during pogroms. Zaddy Sam was the milk boy and at ages 16 and 15 they both fled their country, eventually getting married and making their way to Canada.          

Zaddy Harry is my great-grandfather and my Zaddy Allan's father. Zaddy Harry moved to Canada from Russia when the second wave of  pogroms started. He came to Canada by boat with his brother, my great-Uncle Jack when he was 17 years old. Eventually he was able to  bring his 2 sisters and brother overseas to Canada. During WWII Zaddy Harry and Uncle Jack had a sock factory which produced socks for Canadian soldiers.     

She worked as an accountant and bookkeeper before she got married, and became a homemaker after she got married. She raised a family and took care of her elderly parents. Her greatest challenge was when she faced a major illness at a young age and passed away when my mother was in grade 5. I love hearing stories about her that my Zaida and mom share with me.

She was a Hebrew teacher and photographer. She brought Hebrew into the public schools and presented her work in different photography shows. She got married young and moved to Toronto, Ontario.

He had a successful business. he was the youngest of three brothers, didn’t go to college but was a successful businessman

March 25 1950. She was born in Hungary where Jews were not liked at all. In 1956 Judy and her parents left Hungary and took a boat to New brunswick. Then from New brunswick to Montreal they took a train. And her dad's brother took them from Montreal back to Toronto. That is my grandmother's story. Judy has impacted my life a lot because whenever I need to go to someone's house I always go to her's. Her connection to my family is that she is my dad's mom. She is always so fun to be with, she always makes me laugh and in general she is an amazing person to be around. I love her so so much.

And Then in 2012 10 day after I was born on Feb 18 she died at the old age of 88

Fiege Bisk is my grandmother on my mom’s side. Her parents lived in Europe, but evacuated to Samarkand, Uzbekistan during World War II where she was born. She moved to Israel, California, New York and lastly Canada, where she lived for the past 37 years. She has 8 kids, who she loves with her whole heart. In 1978, she got married in israel, where she also had her first 3 kids. My grandmother was a teacher for many years in a yeshiva. Fiega is a super loving and caring person and is beloved by all her family and friends.

My papa arrived to Canada from Morroco on april 18th 1964 on the SS Saturnia. When he arrived to canada he did not know a word in english and he wasn't accepted at the public schools because of his age (16 years). So he went to night school to learn english. From night school he went to george brown college where he graduated as a draughtsman. My papa and my grandma met on my papa's 19th birthday party. My papa had 2 daughters and 2 sons.

My great Grandmother,Pnina, was born in Ormi that in Iran in 1933 and move to Israel as a young woman in 1950 a week after she married my great grandfather at the age of 17.

Solomon lived in Cape Town for a few years and my great grandmother, Ray, was born there in 1907. He was missing his family and decided to leave Cape Town and go live in Saskatoon so he emigrated with his wife and children to Canada. After one winter he decided that he had made a mistake and moved back to Cape Town, where my great grandmother met my great grandfather, Phillip Seider and where my grandfather Norman Seider was born.

My grandparents from my mother's side of the family lived and were born in Georgia as neighbours until they went to Israel where they got married. They had to leave because of the Six-Day War when they eventually moved to Austria. This is where my mom was born and where my great-grandparents live now, from my grandmother's side. They moved around for a while until they moved to America because my mom was studying at NYU. After this, they moved to Canada and lived in Toronto going into the Diamond industry and now still live here to this day with my grandfather's two other brothers.

after two generations they immigrated to Israel, in the 70's. then my father came to Canada at the age of 8 in 1991. then built a stable family and my grandfather got a job in construction and stayed with it and after 22 years (2013) he retired and passed it onto my father who is now 11 years with it.

Fun fact:The cavcazi Jews immigrated in this area (Azerbaijan)after the destruction of the second temple.

My dad was born and lived there until the fifth grade, when he and his family to Toronto.

my grandfather, Tibor Fleischer, was born in Hungary. he was brought to Canada on a boat in a backpack. I love my grandfather because he is so funny. he is now an accountant. in Thornhill

This is my Zaidy. His name is Bernie Green.

He was born on March 27, 1944. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He has lived in Canada his whole life, but his Mom immigrated from Israel to Canada, and his father came from Oświęcim Poland. Bernie's parents met in Israel. Both of them survived the Holocaust. His parent's names are Irving and Sarah Green. Irving's last name was originally Greenbloom but was changed to Green to get a job. He and my great-grandmother Sarah decided it would be easier to fit in, in Canada and get jobs if they had a less Jewish last name. Bernie has an older brother named Al and a sister named Sheila.

He is currently 80 years old. He worked as a family doctor for 45 years, in family practice, and worked in a hospital and at home. He was an incredibly hard worker and did all he could to give his family an amazing life. Bernie has 3 children Jared, Adam, and Shael and his wife Helene.

This is my great-grandmother. Her maiden name is Miengarten. She was born on January 1st, 1925. After World War 2 she went travelling. In 1946 she met her husband in Weiden Germany. They joined a kibbutz in Flossemberg Germany. Their plan was to then move to Israel but Mania got sick and the Kibbutz in Israel refused to accept her because it would be an unsafe journey. So instead they ended up moving to Canada. Manias' husband Abram got a job as a tailor in Canada because the government was welcoming people with special skills.

She moved to Canada when she was 23 years old. When she moved to Canada neither she nor her husband knew any English. She had nowhere to go. She was an incredibly hard worker and became one of the best workers at a shoe company called Bata. She then had two children Shel and Helene. She was beyond sweet and generous. She treated everyone with love and kindness. She worked super hard and created an amazing family.

My Zaide was born in 1943 in Hatfield England. His father was a watchmaker and his mother was a housewife. He has one younger sister who is five years younger than him. Later his father bought a confectionery and tobacco shop in Wembley. They moved into the apartment upstairs. My Zaide would work at the shop after school and on the weekends. Before he finished secondary school, he had a career advice interview, and decided to become a chartered accountant Because the description made it sound like the James Bond of the financial world. His father introduced him to the accountants who did his business taxes and he signed an apprenticeship agreement for five years. He studied after work with a correspondence course. After he qualified and became a chartered accountant. he left that firm and joined Deloittes but left after one year, because he got bored. In a pub one night with a friend, he talked about coming to North America. They immigrated to Canada and lived in Toronto. he worked for the government of Ontario and in 1978 was assigned to the national defense college of Canada for one year. He traveled across Canada, the United States, central and south America, the far east, middle east and Europe. He chaired the ministry of Heath's united way campaign where he was introduced to Blima Milech (my bubby) through a colleague. the married in 1983 and had three children, Harriet, my mother, Charles and Rebecca.

My Bubbe Blima was born in Heidenheim, Germany in 1948 in a D.P. (displaced persons) camp. Her parents were Holocaust survivors. They were from Parczew, Poland, a small town near Warsaw. Her father Abraham survived the war as a partisan in the forest. Her mother Ester was in several concentration camps including Auschwitz-Birkenau. My Bubbe came to Canada with her parents in 1949 when she was a year old, on a ship called the S.S. Samaria. They landed in Halifax at pier 21 and took a train to Montreal.

My Bubbe grew up in Montreal. Her father was a taxi driver, her mother worked in a bakery. Bubbe's twin brothers Harvey and Sid were born in 1950 on February 22, the same birthday as me!

My Bubbe's first language was Yiddish. She learned English from the kids she played with on the street. She went to afternoon Hebrew school after public school. She graduated from McGill university with a degree in English. Her first job was as a copywriter at Eaton's department store where she wrote the ads. She worked at an advertising agency and then as an Editor at Sun Life Insurance company, were her magazine won an award

In 1980 Bubbe moved to Toronto because of the political situation when Quebec wanted to separate from Canada. in Toronto she got a job as creative manager at ward air. Then she worked as a communications officer at the Ontario ministry of health where she met my Zaide. They got married in 1983 and had three kids, my mom Harriet, Charles and Rebbeca. 

My grand mother was born there in April of 1954. My great grandparents were holocaust survivors and they lived there until 1967, when they moved to Toronto

My bubbie is from South Africa along with my dad. My bubbie moved to Canada when my dad was a teenager with her two daughter and husband.

Serenity Morrell

My Bubbie Celia Louthood was born in 1949 at Mount Sinai Hospital. She lived downtown until she was 3 in a little house on Clinton street, in a community where many Jewish families who immigrated from Europe lived. She moved north to the Bathurst and Willson area where many other Young Jewish families lived. She lived there until she was 22 when she got married and started her teaching career. She taught at Ernest Public School, Arbor Glen Public School when she had my mom, Dublin Heights middle school where she started teaching grade 7 & 8 then she was promoted to vice principal and Woodbine Junior High which had students in grade 7 8 & 9. Finally she became principal at St. Andrew’s Junior high school were she retired after 5 years to spend time with her family. 10 years later I was born and 2 years later my brother was born.she became a busy and happy bubbie! Her last name was Tucker, Frohlinger, then Louthood

My Grandpa Leslie Frohlinger was born in 1947 in Hungary.

His parents and two older siblings survived the Holocaust then had him and his younger brother. When is Israel became a state in 1948 they hired guards and in the middle of the night they snuck out of Hungary by foot and escaped into Czechoslovakia. They had to give sleeping medication to my grandpa’s baby brother because if he cried, they would’ve been shot.

from there, they took a bus into Italy and then took a ship to Israel where they lived for a few years. In The early 1950s they moved into a small farming town in Ontario Canada called Scotland. They only knew Hebrew and Hungarian and didn’t know any English. They lived and worked on the farm for many years. He moved to Hamilton Ontario and worked at Stelco steel. He went to University for accounting. He married my grandmother

Then they had my mother.

My Dads struggles and goals moving to Canada and living in the Soviet Union. In the late 1980s the borders started to open and my dad left the Soviet Union with his family because of antisemitism in Uzbekistan mostly everywhere in the Soviet Union, people in the Soviet Union did not get paid very well , if you were getting more money than you were supposed to the government would take the money and throw you in jail so there was no possible way to be rich and it they found out that you do have a lot of money they could try and kill you ,in school my dad studied Russian and German as a foreign language. So he had no English knowledge whatsoever when he came to Canada. So the struggles were language and money he came with parents and two siblings ( older brother and younger sister) [my aunts name is Lena and my uncles name is Arsen.] My dads family has a very tight bond and they took turns working and studying my dad and my uncle helped pay the bills when they came to Canada my dad worked at a leather company in Canada and my Uncle worked as a mechanic . My Father wanted to understand how economy and finance work in Canada so he got himself enrolled in Toronto School of Business. Took insurance brokers courses, income tax, accounting and Certified Financial Planner courses as well. Right now he has his own practice of doing exactly that. Being an Accountant.

Nanny Sandra Cromwell was born in Southville Nova Scotia On March 24, 1945 - she was the 5th of 7 children - Her Parents Joice and Warren Cromwell were members of a black and indigenous community as many of their family had integrated from many communities in Nova Scotia - There were no hospitals in the area in 1945 so it was very common for children to be born at home. Her family were farmers, foresters, soldiers, paper mill workers, mink ranchers and fishermen.

She is my paternal great-grandmother. She was born in Toronto and grew up there. She was born in the early thirties. Her family owned one of the first chicken stores in Toronto. One of the many challenges of living in this time is that if they would not work on shabbat they would get fired. She worked at the JCC when it first opened at Spadina. Many of her friends became nonreligious due to this.

He was born in 1923. He had 7 brothers and sisters. He was the youngest. One of his brothers died before the war due to sickness and one of his other brothers died in WWII. His father ran a company that supplied shingles to people building homes. He survived Auschwitz went to a displaced person camp and he tried to get into Israel. The people there asked him to recruit people from DP camps come to Israel. Every night he would smuggle people from Germany to Italy then would bring them to Israel. He later moved to France for a couple year and then he came to Canada. He soon started a Farm which supplied kosher milk to the community. He then started another business they bought and sold goods from all over the world. He died in 2004.

My Grandfather is from Morocco and he later than moved to Canada along with my Grandmother.

My grandmother was born February 4, 1952 in Tangier Morocco  and moved to Canada when she was just 6 years old. She attended school while living with her parents.  A story my grandmother remembers is that one day she was walking  down the street with her parents, and they stopped suddenly because someone threw a glass from their balcony and it hit her in the head.  She moved from Morocco to Canada because it was not safe because it was an Arab country. Both her parents worked. Her mother was a seamstress and her father worked in a store that sold flour and wheat.
