         <description><![CDATA[<div>Attendance committees are a great idea if the school has the support behind them.<br><br>Also our elementary school did a bike give away for each grade level for perfect attendance in the 3rd quarter a student from each grade level was selected and received a bike from K-5. at SHES. <br><br>Check in/Check out programs can be successful if implemented correctly and consistently. Sometimes the best intentions gets pushed aside in testing months/SBIT meetings/Evaluations/assessments/PTC's and can it can get away from you if you do not have the support built in.</div>]]></description>

         <title>I believe it is important not to focus on perfect or near perfect attendance but rather improved attendance.  Once a student misses a few days of school they have no chance of winning a perfect attendance contest.  One elementary has incorporated a short time frame, best attendance, classroom award, that honors the weekly winning class with a roaming trophy, announced on the news.  Ongoing activities like this change the culture of the school around attendance, encourage conversations and include elements of motivation and excitement, giving all classes an equal chance to be recognized. ----- Also, I would love to see District wide case staffings change into Attendance Impact meetings held at each individual school, facilitated by school staff to problem solve, connect resources, and motivate students and families with plans unique to the student/ family/ school and community setting.</title>

         <title>School is Cool works. At-risk kids meet with coaches for 15-20 minutes a week for at least a quarter. The topics are school attendance rules, goal-setting, healthy choices, routines at home, etc. The school nurse, social worker, school counselors are all involved. Teachers are involved in the referral process. Most kids improve. When there is no improvement, we look at more intensive interventions.</title>

         <title>Thinking outside the box.... a A school rep (BSW?) for home visits...  the difficulty with attendance interventions for the truly truant is that they&#39;re not on campus to be involved with groups, check-ins, etc., so having someone to physically check-in with the 10th/11th graders who are 16, never at school, not responding to T/Cs or letters and at risk of dropping out, could truly benefit from a Go-To rep, while the social worker is doing Safety plans and social histories for students in need.  </title>
