Well done, Heather. You carried out today’s microblading treatment to a satisfactory standard, showing good client care and a developing technical ability. With a few key improvements, your future treatments will reflect a more confident and professional finish.

Your treatment area was mostly well prepared, and you wore full PPE throughout the procedure, which is essential for maintaining hygiene and ensuring client safety. However, it is crucial to maintain strict cross-infection control at all times—for example, avoid picking up your phone while wearing gloves. This compromises the sterile environment and must be avoided in future treatments.

Client care was very good—you made the client feel comfortable and relaxed throughout. However, your consultation needs improvement. You must carry out a full and detailed consultation, ensuring that all relevant medical history, expectations, and treatment steps are clearly discussed and recorded. A strong consultation forms the foundation of a successful treatment.

You demonstrated a developing blade technique and maintained reasonable control. For future treatments, consider using a hair net to protect the client's hair and placing couch roll or a bib over the client to protect their clothing during the procedure. These are small adjustments that significantly enhance your professionalism and hygiene standards.

Your aftercare provision also needs improvement. While you provided some basic guidance, it’s important to offer clear, detailed verbal instructions alongside written information. Explain the reasons behind each step—for example, avoiding makeup, heat, or touching the area to prevent infection and aid healing.

Strengths

Good client care and communication

Appropriate use of PPE

Calm and professional treatment manner

Areas for Development

Carry out a full and detailed consultation

Adhere strictly to cross-infection control (e.g., avoid phone use with gloves)

Use couch roll or a bib to protect the client's clothing, and a hair net for hair protection

Provide clearer, more detailed aftercare and explain its importance

I would like to see these improvements in your next assessment.

Heather demonstrated a very professional and organised approach to her microblading assessment. She prepared her work area well, setting up her trolley with only disposable items on the top layer and covering the treatment chair appropriately. She wore the correct PPE throughout the procedure.

Heather welcomed her client into the salon warmly and introduced herself clearly, immediately putting the client at ease. She carried out a thorough consultation, ensuring the client’s expectations were fully understood and confirming it was safe to proceed by discussing medical history in detail.

Heather applied the numbing cream correctly and allowed sufficient time for it to take effect. She chose an appropriate pigment colour in consultation with the client, carefully considering the client’s natural colouring and undertones to ensure a flattering result. She also checked that the client was happy before moving forward.

Heather mapped the brows with the client sitting upright, which is excellent practice. To build on this, Heather may benefit from introducing tools such as a sticky ruler or calipers to help achieve even greater accuracy and symmetry in her brow measurements.

Heather removed excess hair carefully with tweezers, maintaining skin tension throughout to ensure client comfort. She began the microblading treatment with good technique, demonstrating a steady stretch and ensuring each stroke was dipped freshly into the pigment to maximise implantation. She communicated well with the client throughout, regularly checking on her comfort and pain levels.

During this treatment, Heather worked on more mature skin, which presents additional challenges such as a higher risk of blurred hair strokes. Going forward, she should ensure she leaves slightly wider gaps between hair strokes to prevent a blended or overly saturated result. It’s important to remember that hairstrokes can be added at the top-up appointment, but they cannot be easily removed once implanted.

Heather is encouraged to continue monitoring her timings carefully to ensure she completes each stage of the treatment efficiently and within industry expectations.

Overall, Heather carried out her microblading assessment to a high standard, showing strong client care, good technical ability, and a willingness to learn and refine her skills. Well done, Heather — keep building on this great foundation!
