Q1: What subsistence pattern do you think is the best and why? Q2: How did Jared Diamond explain inequalities in the video? Why do some people have much cargo and others so little cargo? Q3: What has been your favorite part of class so far?

I think foraging (searching plants/ hunting and gathering) is the best subsistence pattern. Foraging obtains the majority of your resources directly from the environment without cultivation. It seems to be the most adaptable because it allows you to rely on natural resources/ the direct environment. This results in a lifestyle allowing you to have more free time and a close connection to your surroundings. In the video, Diamond believed that the blueprint for global inequality was in the land, meaning the crops and animals. Some people have more cargo than others because some communities having significantly more access to goods than others. Like how in a poor Neiborhood there are more fast-food places around which causes them to buy fast food more often because it is cheap, easily accessible and some people just don't want to cook. This is unequal distribution of resources between different groups because it negatively affects the people in the community. My favorite part of class so far has been chapter one. I liked chapter one because it introduced me to anthropology, and I really didn't know much about it before I took this class. I think this class has really opened my eyes and has helped me to understand people/ the world better.

I think pastoralism is the best subsistence pattern, because you can get everything you need to survive. You can get many dairy products from these animals, you will have plenty of meat, and you can sell or trade these things to get other items. Jared Dimond explains the inequalities as the geographical location of a country and the resources it possesses. Jared Diamond thinks that people having a lot of cargo is based on luck of being near the right crops and access to livestock. My favorite part of class is watching videos to learn these topics from a different perspective.

The Best subsistence pattern is Industrial Agriculture. This is the most modern form of subsistence, and it is best because it provides for the most people (Ferraro 148). Diamond defines inequalities as haves and have nots (Video). An example of this is that the Egyptians have the pyramids while other societies don't. One main reason for the inequalities is the people's subsistence pattern and this is even determined by several factors such as location. The best part of class so far was the codenames vocab review.

I believe Intensive agriculture is the best pattern because it is a nice blend of large production and consideration of the environment by using animals instead of machinery. Jared Diamond explained the inequalities as the Americans having so much cargo and the Papa New Guineans having such little cargo. Cargo was pretty much seen as religious to the Papa New Guinean's while the White man believed they were the superior race. The difference between people having little cargo and a lot of cargo is caused by their different rates in advancement of technology within different societies along with population sizes. My favorite part of class so far has been the discussions we have at the start of class and the videos we watched especially in chapters 5 and 6.

I think that foraging is the best technique because although it isn't the most efficient it does not require the use of fossil fuels and pollution. It also allows for it to be done in more places due to not needing fertile soil or large amounts of money for machines and to purchase livestock. In the episode he says that some countries have more resources due to their geographic location. Some places allow for more livestock and more land for farming and can domesticate wild animals for livestock because they are abundant in their region. Also, the climates in some places are suitable for agriculture while others are not allowing for a certain place to have more resources than another. It also allows some places to spread resources quicker and more widespread. My favorite part of the class so far has been the theory presentations because it was more interactive, and I feel like I learned the most information from the presentations.

I think industrial agriculture is the best subsistence pattern because it provides a large scale of food quickly with the use of farming machines. Jared Diamond explained inequality by using the example of the Americans owning more cargo than the New Guineans because of their belief that they were superior. Usually when one group of people have more cargo than another, it means that the group with more has more advanced technology and technique. So far in this class, my favorite part is watching the interesting videos and learning new things about cultures, Like the language videos and what different cultures eat.

I believe that Intensive agriculture is the best. I think this because it provides an ample supply of food and enough for excess which allows for stock piling and trade (Ferraro 148). Intensive agriculture well as not losing the natural part of agriculture which makes it more acceptable as well as humane. Jared Dimond explained that some people have more cargo because of technological advancement as well as people spreading no native diseases to populations. My favorite part of this class has been expanding the ability to be more open minded to other people's ideas and not judging them.

I think horticulture is the best subsistence pattern because they produce many means of food from gardening. Using the subsistence pattern of horticulture, they produce vegetables, fruits, flowers, and grasses. They not only eat the plants they produce, but use them for medical purposes as well. Jared Diamond explained inequalities as seen through the lens of geography. He argued that depending on whether plants and animals are readily available to cultures around the world, it could lead to technological advances to certain areas. Some people have little cargo because they don't have the resources readily available for their use. Some people have so much more cargo than others because they do have the resources at their feet. My favorite part of this class has been learning about all the differences from our culture to more indigenous cultures.

I think horticulture subsistence pattern is the best because it is environmentally friendly, healthy for people, and provides enough food for small societies/towns (textbook). Jared Diamond explains that societies with access to fertile land and natural resources progress much faster than societies without this access. Some people have more cargo, material wealth, than others because of geographic traits, again fertile land and a variety of plants and animals (Guns, Germs, and Steel). My favorite part of this class so far has been this section. I think it's interesting learning about ways people provide food for themselves and others.

I also think that you can get a lot of other things from domesticated animals like you can get milk from cows eggs from chickens and many other things. Jared explained inequality by using the example of how Americans have more cargo from New Guineans because we think that we are superior. Some people have more cargo than other people sometimes based off of their geographical location and just luck to live near the resources.

I think horticulture is the best Subsistence pattern. This is because I think gardening is the best solution to food desserts. It is very sustainable and gives us the nutrients we need. If more people focused on the art of Horticulture we could have bountiful amounts of food. He explained inequalities by telling us about societies who have access to fertile land and other positive geographic features vs. people who are in places where horticulture would be unsustainable. People have more cargo because of positive geographic features. My favorite part has been learning how to be more partial when it comes to understanding and learning about other cultures.
